#211 - Sunday, May 08, 2016 Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue... - Check out an amazing grow journal by a talented grower using Kind LED grow lights.
- Get more info about how to use LEDs!
- Using strong grow lights
(like the LEDs in today's journal) is really important to producing dense buds, but what else can you do to increase bud density?
- This week's trophy pics feature the incredible recovery of an auto-flowering cannabis plant that was thrown away!

Grow Journal
August 30
I transplanted these two plants from soil to hydro and they are taking, glad to see I'm able to transplant clones from soil to dirt and switching nutes, baby steps but I got there!
Train Wreck September 13
Next step is building my reservoir system, slowly
getting there!!!!
September 19
They are looking really nice :) got water changing to do and than some trimming
to do :) #highlife
Bubble Gum before & after training Trainwreck before & after September 28
Finally got the RDWC working and set up, hope the ladies like this
better. I also moved the two into a bigger tent, got more training to do now but they are looking good n happy October 5
Got the lids on and got the pumps working almost right, super amped on the new
set up, also added three nutes to the line up :) Redid the lids over the weekend and did more folding on the bubblegum, she seems like the one to scrog over the train wreck but both are looking pretty good, about to trim the Bubble
Gum.
Bubble Gum
October 22
Week two of flowering. Gave them a transition recipe to bloom last week. This
change gave her the ripening recipe. Looking forward to this flowering with the new nutes, can't wait to see the difference November 2
1st pic is train wreck and pic 2 is of the
bubblegum. Such a great transplant from soil to hydro. Just extremely pleased. November 4
Tops tops tops tops tops tops tops
everywhere!
Been slacking. Just drop the net in her but now its all her :) decided to leave the outer ring on her just reposition them to light so they are not left out. My first scrog. Already thinking about the next run and how I can improve on training them. November 19
Ok it's getting exciting!!!! I'm so amped to show y'all how they are doing.
Beginning of week 6 of flowering :) and I must admit they are already sticky as hell! I was cutting some bigger fan leaves off to help out the light and barely brushed my arm against the buds. Wow it was
like I jumped around in it, my hair was so sticky, I loved it! This run is a 1000% better grow than last, and my first scrog attempt, I'm digging it :)
First 3 pics are the trainwrecks (my luvs) Last 3 pics are the Bubblegum (I like these too but not like I do the train wreck) Harvest!
January 19
Finally chopped em down after 12 days of flush, just beauties. Bubble gum left and Train Wreck right. January 25
Bubble Gum - 12.3 oz
318g in jars and roughly
30g in front January 26
Train Wreck - 7.8 oz
223g of greatness :)
I think this is at least two times better then the Bubble Gum.
This wasn't a high-yielding plant but the quality is awesome. They both smoke good but I think the t.w. won in my book. Final Yield - 20.1 oz (1.3 lbs)
Bubble gum -
12.3 oz
Train wreck - 7.8 oz
Total: 20.1 oz (1.3 pounds) Bubble gum on left and train wreck on right for a nice bubble wreck combo :) so lovely
My thoughts on the LEDs so far:
The Kind K5 XL1000 LED is very nice and slick with a built-in timer and fans. It's not big and bulky and it
doesn't put out extreme heat. I feel the penetration is good, they are pricey but honestly you save so much on your power bill it basically pays for itself within the first year!
Want to learn more about LEDs? |
LED grow lights are relatively new to the cannabis growing scene, but they have become wildly popular over the last few years with their ability to produce great yields while staying cool and using a reasonable amount of electricity.
Today's LED models are much better for growing cannabis than the ones available even half a decade ago. They have wider spectrums of light (instead of purely red and blue light) which results in greener, healthier growth and better looking buds. Additionally, LED manufacturers have developed specialized lenses to point light directly down at the plants and increase penetration, which results in bigger yields for the same amount of light
compared to older models.
If you enjoyed today's grow journal and are interested in learning more about LED grow lights, I've put together a page with information about how to use modern LEDs for the best results, and a list of trustworthy brands that get good cannabis yields and produce top-quality buds.
The following plant was also grown under Kind LEDs, just like the plants in today's grow journal!

No More Small, Airy Buds!
|
Grow Fat, Dense Cannabis Buds! Top 5 Reasons for Airy Marijuana Buds
- Light - Not enough light (from grow lights) is the most common reason buds don’t develop as densely as they could. On the flip side, too-bright light (or buds being too close to grow lights) can also cause buds to develop poorly and/or produce airy fox-tails.
- Temperature - Cannabis wants the temperature just right for optimal bud growth, which is about the same temperature as what's comfortable for humans. Too
hot (and occasionally too cold) temps can cause buds to grow less densely.
- Nutrients - Buds won’t fatten and get dense unless they're getting the right nutrients. For example giving too much nitrogen in the flowering stage results in airy buds, but that's not the only thing. Other nutrient problems can be caused by incorrect pH, not giving enough nutrients, giving too much nutrients, or giving the plant the wrong kind of nutrients.
- Airflow - Poor airflow around buds will prevent those buds from developing as densely as they could. In the wild cannabis is a wind-pollinated plant, so it only spends energy growing and fattening buds that are
exposed not only to light, but also to fresh air. To make sure the buds are getting a breeze, each big cola on your plant should have a few inches of space around it that it's not sharing with any other buds.
- Roots - Under-watering, overwatering, and/or root problems (such as root rot or a too-small container) will hurt yields and prevent buds from getting as dense as they could be since the plant isn’t able to run at peak efficiency.

Well ... first time grower here, matter of fact the seeds are germinating as I type. Set it up to use the DWC system - thanks btw for all the info on your site. Really filled in a lot of blanks. I know there's a ton more to know but having the basics to get out of the gate is a good start. Thanks again.

These pictures tell the story of a plant that recovered from the brink of death after being thrown away! As soon as I saw it I knew I needed to share it with all of you! A huge thanks to the grower for letting me share these pics! ~Nebula

LSD-25 Auto, day 19
|
It's a LSD-25 auto that I screwed up badly with rock wool, pH, etc... pulled it and replaced the plant with a new one at day 20.
Threw it into a pail, intending to bring to the garbage. Found the bucket 2 weeks later.... and the plant had grown in 1/2" of water, covered in algae, and no air stone. ;)
LSD-25 Auto, day 40
I moved it to a 2-gal dwc bucket, and look at it now. Turning purple and everything. AND discovered this morning that the
2-gal dwc bucket air stone came unhooked... so it wasn't getting bubbles even.
daaum.. they ARE weeds!
