2017 Seed Bank Review

Happy New Year! I can't believe that the year is over already! It seems like only yesterday we were waiting for the 2012 Mayan "Apocalypse", yet somehow it's already a half decade later in 2017!

I'm looking forward to making this year the best year yet, and I hope you are too! Today is the perfect day to decide who you want to be and what you want to do in 2017 :)

Some things change, and some things stay the same. We always review the list of Recommended Cannabis Seed Sources around the new year, and this year (for the first time in a long time) we've added a new seed bank to the list (True North Seed Bank in Canada)!

GrowWeedEasy Cannabis Seed Bank List of 2017

This list contains trustworthy seed sources for buying cannabis seeds online

(New!)

True North Seed Bank

Located: Canada
Ships: Worldwide

Pros
  • Huge selection of strains

  • Located in Canada, it's one of the few well-established seed banks in North America (most well-established seed banks are located overseas)

  • Been in business since 2011 and have even kept the same phone number the whole time: 1-416-679-0421 (10am - 7pm EST)

  • Insurance and stealth shipping are available, packages are very discrete.

  • Accepts most standard payment methods including Visa/Mastercard, money orders, cash, bank transfer, Bitcoin/Litecoin, etc.

  • Unlike most other seed sources, they also accept Paypal. However, please note that Paypal orders don't go through immediately - for your protection (and theirs) you will be billed a few hours later for something very ordinary like cilantro seeds.

  • They include tracking so you can actually track your seeds through the mail!
Accepts Paypal!
Cons

  • Unless you pay extra for stealth shipping, your seeds will arrive packed in a few layers of bubble wrap in a plain envelope. It looks very discrete and packages rarely get opened when coming to the US from Canada, but if it does get opened in customs your seeds are going to get confiscated. Although I didn't have problems receiving seeds from True North Seed Bank even without stealth shipping, if you're worried I highly recommend paying extra so they wrap your seeds in a t-shirt or something like that!
Why was this seed bank added to the list?

Last year we became aware of True North in Canada and did a few test orders. We were impressed with the speed of delivery to the USA, and unlike a lot of other seed banks, they accept Paypal. Plus, since it's coming from Canada you can also actually track your order to your door in the US!

After reaching out to a few other growers, we found that people have been having great experiences with this seed bank! Since many of you have requested a seed source in North America that accepts Paypal, we knew we had to add this one to the list!

Nirvana

Located: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Ships: Worldwide Except Australia
(highly recommended choice for buying cannabis seeds in the USA!)

Pros
  • Great Prices

  • Fast, Discreet Shipping -  Nirvana is one of the most stealthy seed vendors - seeds arrive quickly, on time, with inconspicuous packaging. Two times I actually couldn't find the seeds in my package and had to contact Nirvana customer service to know where to look!

  • Responsive Customer Service - they actually breed and grow their strains in house, so they can accurately answer your questions

  • Well-Established - The people who founded Nirvana have been breeding award-winning strains and selling seeds around the world by mail order since the 1980s, and Nirvana as an international seed source opened for business in 1995.

  • Read customer reviews about each strain and leave your own reviews

  • Promptly ships more seeds for free if you have any problems or if seeds do not arrive

  • Accepts a wide variety of payment options (bank draft, cash, credit)

  • Visit them in person if you’re in Amsterdam!
Cons
  • Since they breed their own seeds (hence their slogan "straight from the source"), they only carry strains developed by Nirvana. This means you have a much smaller selection than a huge "seed bank."

  • Unfortunately, no seeds shipped to Australia

Seedsman

Located: U.K.
Ships: Worldwide

Pros
  • Free seed promotions & huge selection of strains

  • Choose their "Guaranteed Delivery" option when checking out for guaranteed stealth shipping. This ensures your seeds will get to you no matter what.

  • They only carry strains by reputable breeders, and also breed and grow their own strains in-house. They make it easy to find a strain for your needs and grow space - use their seed selector to find a suitable strain

  • Long-lasting & trustworthy company - Seedsman has been providing cannabis seeds since 2003 and they have made a name for themselves as a professional seed source.

  • Accepts a wide variety of payment options (bank transfer, cash, credit cards, debit cards, checks, postal orders, money orders, Bitcoin - recommended for discounts and nobody but you and the seller can know what you are buying)
Cons
  • Choosing to add "Guaranteed Delivery" to your order combined with the price of shipping can make ordering from this place a little pricey, especially if you're buying just a few seeds at a time.

Auto-Flowering vs Photoperiod Strains
by EasilyUsed

Photoperiod Cannabis Strains
  • Will vegetate essentially indefinitely on anything between an 18/6 and 24/0 light cycle.

  • Can be cloned, one seed = unlimited plants.

  • Will flower once put into a 12/12 light cycle.

  • Usually will take longer to produce a usable yield (average 4 months).

  • Can produce a larger plant and therefore higher yield.

  • Will often produce a more potent bud (though that's changing now that auto-flowering genetics are becoming more refined)

  • Can take more abuse due to unlimited vegetation period.

  • Responds well to topping and super-cropping in the vegetative cycle.

Autoflowering Cannabis Strains
  • Will vegetate for a limited amount of time before automatically going into flowering mode (each strain's vegetative time will be different).

  • Cannot be cloned (in the traditional sense), one seed = one plant.

  • Will flower automatically, regardless of light cycle.

  • Usually will produce usable yield sooner (some as soon as 2 months from seed, and usually around 3 months from seed)

  • Will usually produce a smaller plant and therefore limited yield.

  • Can't take much abuse due to limited growth time.

  • May not respond well to topping and super-cropping. (Learn more: Can you "top" auto-flowering strains?)

Both Photoperiod and Autoflowering:
  • It its natural state, cannabis is an annual plant. This means that these plants grow from new seeds every year, and die at the end of the flowering process, ideally mating, creating and releasing seeds that will grow as the next generation.

  • Can be stressed and herm (grow both male and female parts) as a result of incorrect light cycle changes.

  • Seeds can generate male or female plants, unless the seeds are feminized.

  • Need approximately the same amount of nutrient care.

  • Can potentially be grown to produce the same size plants with similar yields.

  • Respond well to LST and other gentle training

Look Who's Talking!

I have serious health problems that include Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Chronic pain and a couple others I won't bore you with. I've suffered with chronic pain for the last 13 years and been on every medication available. Last January I thought I'd try smoking weed to combat the trouble I have getting to sleep at night due to the muscle spasms in my back every night.

At first, I got it locally but when that became tiresome (and you never know what's in the weed you buy) I decided to try growing it myself. Afterall I'm a pretty good gardener and its a plant so why not? I knew I'd have to grow it inside because here in Florida, the summers are brutal, the bugs always looking for something good to eat and it seemed easier in a controlled setting. I searched the internet for information on growing and found your site!

I started with a seeds I bought online and lots of organic soil in my linen closet. Thanks to you I was able to set up my closet with lights, mirrored mylar on the walls and door, an exhaust fan and all the other necessities. The first grow went surprisingly well. In April I had my first harvest and learned how to trim and prepare the weed for storage and use. The information you provided on your site was THE BEST I've ever found and find myself going back to it time and time again. I've been able to grow enough to have 4 mason jars full of various strains (all of which I purchased using information from you), 2 pounds of butter (also found on your site), a whole bunch of capsules. I currently have my 5th grow almost ready for harvest (after the first grow, I decided to go the DWC route and add a tent set up in my guest room!) All of this information you've supplied has helped many people including my best friend who has Multiple Sclerosis, another friend with insomnia, and yet another who suffers with Chronic pain.

Florida passed the law for marijuana but reserves it for terminal patients but it will be available for all someday. Thankfully I don't have to depend on 'friends of friends' to get my weed all I need is you! Thank you for what you do. You have no idea how many people you help every day with your site and I'm sure there's someone suffering today that will make the decision I did last January. Keep up the good work and again, thanks.
