Dear Fellow Grower,

Before we get started... Many of our newsletter readers are members of our two forums, and I wanted to update all of you about what's going on since they are both currently down.

Updates on Forum Closures

GWE's Google+ Community - For those in our unofficial Google+ group, Google recently suspended the community due to "spam". We had no idea it was coming and immediately appealed the decision. However, Google has not responded after almost 4 weeks, and we don't know if they ever will turn the community back on.

GWE Official Forum Will Be Back Up Soon - Our official forum is located at http://forum.growweedeasy.com. It has been growing like mad over the last few months, and especially since the Google+ closure. I don't want to go into the technical details but basically the number of pictures blew up our database. We have a professional who's experienced with this particular problem and is currently helping us fix the forum and get it on a new, better host. I cannot promise a timeline, but the official forum will be up again no matter what, and we hope it's soon.

Growing Pains

When Sirius and I started GWE as a small blog back in 2010, we never dreamed that the website and community would serve so many growers. Although we're delighted everyone is using the free information to grow and share, we hope you bear with us through our growing pains.

You are our biggest priority, and please believe me when I say we are devastated by the closures and are literally doing everything we can to bring the main forum back up as soon as possible.

And now back to the main show...
  • Which room in the house is the best for growing? Is it your attic, a garage, a basement, a bathroom, a spare bedroom, etc.?

  • Get other resources to ensure your grow is as stealthy as possible.

  • Is it a deficiency? Round yellow spots appearing all over your plant may actually be the result of a fungus called leaf septoria.

  • This week's Trophy Pic features an outdoor harvest from southern Oregon!

What's the Best Room in the House for Growing?
by Sammy Spade (with contributions by Nebula Haze)

A lot of new growers rush into setting up their indoor garden without a proper plan. And dare I blame you? As an exciting new chapter in your life with great rewards, you're anxious to get started... but it's also an endeavor rife with challenges. Challenges you need to take very seriously.
Deciding which room of your house to use for producing home-grown weed presents a complex problem, and reserving some meaningful consideration goes a long way towards making your job easier and your grow a more successful endeavor.
Would you launch a business without a plan? Probably not. Or perhaps your answer is yes. Perhaps you would start a business by just moving forward and winging it as you went along.

Fair enough, so would I, to be completely honest with you. But even so, I strongly encourage a methodical process for setting up your grow. Although it's possible to wing it with growing cannabis, there is so much at stake and so much room for failure that the importance of a plan is crucial to saving you a lot of time and more importantly money!

Let's look at some of the different aspects you want to take into account before choosing a room to try out your green thumb.
7 Guiding Principles To Creating the Perfect Grow Room
1.  Concealment
A smart grower puts a lot of effort into concealment. Even if you are growing medical marijuana and have gone through all the motions demanded of a legal pot farmer (and I still highly encourage you to do so), you don't want the whole world knowing what you are up to.

Even though you can run a legitimate operation these days, headaches are no less real if the authorities decide to give you a little trouble, even if just to make you uncomfortable. On top of that, you face a real danger from burglars, many of who are armed and dangerous.

So, secrecy is paramount.

Look at the different rooms in your house and consider how easy their location will make it to hide your grow once it's set up. If growing inside, will guests notice something fishy going on, or can you just keep them away from the door to the room and call it good?

A stand-alone room separated from the main house is a stealthy location for minimizing damages and keeping it away from guests (dogs loose in the yard serve as a fantastic burglar deterrent), but how will you keep light from spilling out the door every time you enter the room during the "day cycle?"

Do You Have This Pest?
Leaf septoria

Sometimes called "yellow leaf spot" or "leaf septoria," this condition is caused by a fungus that attacks cannabis plants and usually appears in warm, wet weather. The symptoms often first appear on the bottom leaves of the plant.

The spots may have darkened borders and may have a hard growth in the middle like a little pimple, but the thing that makes the spots the most unique is they are often very uniform, like little circles. Each spot is the receptacle of a spore (ewwww) which look like tiny dark specks in the center of each spot.

Although the spots often appear yellow like in the picture below, they will start turning brown over time. So if you see round brown spots on your cannabis leaves it could also be caused by leaf septoria.

Look Who's Talking!

Hi. I spent about six months reading the wealth of information on the site, before I made my first attempt at growing one plant. I have a notebook which I use for things to do and things not to do. Every question I have is very easily answered on the site. Thanks. ......a very satisfied site user.

Sirius Fourside:

Sirius Fourside is a hobbyist grower who has gained the bulk of his experience growing in water as a medium (deep water culture, bubbleponics).

"Growing cannabis can be a relaxing hobby in and of itself, but it also saves you money and keeps you from having to deal with shady characters. Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
