Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- Sativa strains can feel like the pesky sibling of Indica strains due to their fussy, stretchy nature. But is it worth all the work to raise one? Oh yes, indeed! And it'll be even more worth it when you learn how to grow them painlessly!
- Sativa plants can be finicky, but they have unique effects that make them worth the effort! Below, I'll show you a Sativa strain I just finished growing that blew me away...and I shoud not have been surprised!
- Our first trophy pic of the week are the results of a test done by a grower. He wanted to see the difference between plants that were topped or left alone and I think the result speak for themselves! Also, we included some fantasic bud pics from a grower in Australia!

A Guide to Growing Finicky Sativa Strains Indoors
by Nebula Haze w/ Alltatup

When it comes to growing cannabis indoors, there are two main varieties of photoperiod plants that are cultivated for their buds: Indica and Sativa strains. While Indica plants tend to stay small and manageable (which can be convenient for indoor growing), Sativa plants are
typically a little tougher to care for indoors.
Sativa strains originated from hotter regions near the equator with long growing seasons, and as a result, they carry a few properties from their family history that can catch an indoor grower by surprise!
Here's an example of two Sativa plants (Panama strain) grown indoors. Sativa strains produce big and tall plants that can get out of control quickly in a small grow space!

Sativa plants really thrive outdoors when they have unlimited space to grow!
Why do we still try to grow Sativa plants indoors if it’s tough? In part, because Sativa strains often have amazing and unique buds effects, and produce very high yields when done right 🙂
Note: It is rare to find a “pure” Sativa strain since that’s a loose definition, and nearly all marijuana strains available today are actually some sort of hybrid. The following tutorial is all about strains with a lot of Sativa plants in their ancestry and which carry a lot of common Sativa characteristics!
Typical Indica vs Typical Sativa plant
These two plants were grown indoors together under the same conditions from seed to harvest. The short Indica plant produced half the yields of the 5-foot Sativa! A big part of this is the fact that the Sativa plant got big enough to take full advantage of all the lights, while the Indica stayed short.
Sativa buds often have “foxtails” (buds grow in little towers) and/or may be relatively “wild” or leafy looking
Just for reference, this is what that same Sativa strain (Kaya Gold) looks like when buds are grown indoors under LED grow lights
This is what the buds of a “true” landrace Sativa looks like – basically all foxtails! Most available “Sativa” strains are actually hybrids with at least a little Indica genes mixed in to help increase bud density and improve overall
structure.
Example of untrimmed, dried buds of a Blue Dream plant, a very popular Sativa-leaning cannabis hybrid that’s
become well known for being easy to grow.

General Appearance of Sativa Plants
- Often have long, skinny leaves
- Generally stretchy appearance with lots of side branching and plenty of space between sets of leaves (as opposed to the short, squat Christmas tree shape of an Indica plant).
- Tend to grow tall and fast throughout their life, and may double or even triple in height after entering the flowering stage!
- Buds often have “foxtails” and may be loose or airy compared to Indica buds, which tend to be solid and dense. However, a well-bred Sativa strain can still often out-produce an Indica in the same conditions because everything about the plant grows so big and so fast.
Long, thin “fingers” on Sativa leaves, compared to Indica leaves which tend to be round and fat.
Sativa plants tend to grow tall, with lots of stem between leaves and extensive side branching

Growing A Sativa!
|
I'll be honest right from the start: I'm a biased grower.
I love all cannabis strains, but I'm especially partial towards Indica heavy strains. In fact, 5 of the last 6 plants I grew were mostly Indica.
However, the one Sativa I grew rocks my socks and it has a reputation that doesn't need my approval.

Nebula!
Just a quick thank you with regards to your weekly newsletters. I’m still a newbie and JUST lost my recent grow due to heat stress. I was a frustrated man when this week’s newsletter which seemed written specifically for me; came in. I immediately ordered the three recommended supplements and look forward to a successful follow-up grow. Thank you for the time and effort you contribute to the community. You're my go-to resource.

"In my last communication, I thanked you for all the years of help and all the years that I anticipate you will be helping all of us out here. I thought about something that I have not seen and so tried to work on that specifically to send to you.
Attached are pictures Of my four, C3 Clone Silvertips that I'm growing this season.
All are 3rd generation clones; started at the same time, same watering, same environment, same feeding ... everything the same with only one exception,Topping.
All the ladies were cloned on New Year's Day, January 1, 2019. I topped only one plant At the end of February, then topped the same plant and two others for their first time in March 2019. In April, I topped the first plant a third time, the two that I had topped only once got topped for a second time, and the 4th one, that had been growing without being topped, finally got its first topping.
These plants are now 6 months old And as you can see, the one on the far left is the one that has been topped only once. The two on the far right have been topped twice, and the one big one is the one that has been topped three times ( second one from the left). Again remember these are all identical clones and the only difference Is the topping techniques by time."

doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
