How to Make an Incredible Growing Environment

What makes the perfect cannabis growing environment? What does it take to get the healthiest growth and best yields from your indoor cannabis plants?
Consider a grow tent if you want a pre-made perfect growing environment for your marijuana plants!
5 Factors to Creating a Perfect Growing Environment
(from most important to least important)
- Light – Bright but not too bright
- Temperature – Comfortable for you, comfortable for your plants
- Air Circulation – Fresh air plus a gentle breeze
- Reflection – Cover your walls with a reflective material
- Humidity – Controlling humidity helps plants grow faster and can increase resin production
You need a great environment to produce the best harvest. A poor growing environment lowers both yields and bud quality!
Benefits of a great grow environment
- Plants grow faster
- Harvest bigger yields
- Healthier, greener, and overall hardier plants
- Higher bud quality (better bud density, shape, and trichome production)
- Stronger bud smell and potency (THC and smells can get “burned off” if it’s too hot)
- Plants are more resistant to common problems like over/underwatering, hermies, heat stress, light stress,
bugs, mildew and but rot
Keep plants comfortable and they will reward you!
1.) Light
When growing cannabis, you want to give light that is bright but not too bright. The amount of light you provide is one of the major factors that will determine your yields, and with smaller grow lights your yields will be limited no matter what you do.
Light also changes how your plant grows. For example, the color spectrum of light can cause your plants to grow tall and lanky or more bushy and squat. Some grow lights like LED grow lights take advantage of a custom color spectrum to help your plants grow as optimally as possible.
However, it’s also possible to give your cannabis plants...

Who should use a grow tent?
If you can give your plants a great environment, nature does most of the work for you. Yet possibly the hardest part of growing cannabis is getting set up properly.
Grow tents are designed to make it easy for a hobbyist grower to recreate an ideal version of nature. After that, it’s mainly a matter of planting a seed and watering your plants until you harvest bud!

Grow tents come in many shapes and sizes. Here are some plants I've grown in a tent over the years.

See this little nug at the bottom of the plant falling over? This whole branch should have been removed before the plant started making flowers

Normally I like to "lollipop" plants right as they start flowering, which means to remove all growth below a certain point on the plant. Lollipopping creates bare stems on bottom and all the "good stuff" is concentrated on top close to the lights 🍭
Lollipopping would have prevented tiny little buds from forming at the bottom of the plant, which are falling over and may have to go in the trim pile after harvest. Lollipopping also would help the main top buds get fatter/more stacked.
Here's a quick diagram of how I typically lollipop plants right as they start flowering
In this tent, the front right plant would have benefited the most (that's where the falling nug was located) but lollipopping would have helped all plants produce fatter top buds.
I didn't lollipop because I'm currently doing a side-by-side experiment with clones to test whether the HLG 300 Quantum Board LED grow light (above tent) or the 315 LEC grow light (below tent) performs better.

I didn't want to introduce extra variables. I knew lollipopping would be a potential variable because I'd have to choose which stems to take or leave.
In fact, I've tried to stay "hands off" as much as possible this entire grow, and it really makes me appreciate how much easier the grow process is when you using plant training, defoliation, and other manipulation to make plants grow in a more favorable manner indoors!
For anyone following along, here's the LEC grow tent. It also would have benefited greatly from lollipopping!

There's only about a month until harvest. I can't wait!

"Hat's off to Nebula and Sirius for this site. Using their expertise and guidance, I took a single Wonder Woman (strain) to a full pound in 4x4x7 tent. I started with two, one didn't survive root rot. Started on 400W MH, 1000W MH, then
1000W HPS at 24 hr veg, then 12/12 bloom. Manifolded to create 12 mains. LST thru veg + Defoliation 4 times. Aquaponics and GH Flora nutes + HydroGuard & SilicaBlast. 4 months exactly. Wet trim 3.5oz sugar leaves for total usable of 19.6oz. Very strong, 1/2 amber trich."

Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any.
