Issue #413 - Sunday, March 15, 2020
Dear Fellow Grower,
I'm sure you've heard about the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We're at a crucial point where our actions matter.
Here Are 3 Simple Things You Can Do to Help:
- Hygiene - Wash your hands often, cough or sneeze into your elbow, avoid touching your face.
- Avoid other people - Don't leave your home unless absolutely necessary. If you must go out, stay more than 3 feet (1m) away from others.
- Don't ignore symptoms - Seek medical attention if you have trouble breathing. If you feel sick or are sneezing/coughing, stay home. Seriously.
Even if you're not worried about yourself, COVID-19 is deadly for people who are the most vulnerable. That means when you take the above actions, you're saving lives.
Do your part. Inspire others to do the same. We're in this together! ✌🖖
Stay safe!

LEDs vs LECs Grow Journal Update
|
Update: LEDs vs LECs grow journal
All plants are in a 2'x4'x6' grow tent. Both lights are 18" from tops of plants. In these pictures, the plants are 55 days from when I initiated the flowering stage with a 12/12 light schedule.
|
HLG 300 LED tent: The LED tent is looking and smelling great! This LED panel uses only 275W (according to my
kilawatt meter), and really doesn't put out much heat. So I'm pretty surprised by how well the plants seem to like the LEDs.
I included a picture of a Pacific Punch bud (front right plant in the tent). Its buds are some of the smallest in the tent, but may be the most gorgeous. Every bud on that plant is extremely dense, sparkly,
and turning purple. They just look top-shelf. Maybe the smaller yield on this strain will be worth it for the bud quality? I'll find out after harvest!
315 LEC tent: The 315 LEC grow tent looks like it got hit by a glitter bomb 🕺 It's a disco in there! I think the trichome coverage may be even more intense in this tent than the other. There are bits of purple here and there, but overall the buds and leaves are still green. At this point it looks like the LED tent may yield more than
the LEC tent. But the potency/quality of buds after harvest decides the real winner. Regardless, buds in both tents look outstanding!
The trichomes are the result of sparkly strains combined with the 4000k bulb on the LEC. Something about that bulb really brings out the sparkle, though in my experience buds get significantly smaller than they do under the "flowering" 3100k bulb. I've heard other
LEC growers say to flower plants under the 3100k bulb so you get the weight and yields, then switch to the 4000k bulb for the last 2 weeks to bring out the trichome production. I may try that next time!
Here's a closeup of a Pacific Punch bud in the LEC tent
The Pacific Punch and Ocean Fruit plants are being flushed (given just plain pH'ed water without any nutrients) and will probably get harvested this week or early next week. The rest of the plants look like they need another week or two before they're ready to start flushing.
Since these clones have been treated identically, any differences between the buds are likely from the grow lights. I can't wait to test all the buds for cannabinoids and terpene levels after harvest!

Hi Nebula! The wealth of information on your website is fantastic. I invested in the pH up and down and realized how important that is for the plants to absorb nutrients.
Thanks for everything!
Kenneth
Unless someone is blessed with perfect water (not me!), managing pH at the roots can be a game-changer! When given the right pH, plants grow faster, healthier, and produce better yields. ~Nebula
