Issue #437 - Sunday, August 30, 2020
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- If you grow long enough, every single grower will run into a situation that could be called "heartbreaking". The truth is, you shouldn't feel bad since these events eventually happen to us all! This newsletter will show you how to avoid mistakes by examining ours!
- What causes leaves to grow only 3 "points" or "fingers"? Learn the surprising answer! Hint: Your plant is trying to tell you something.
- Learn how to start growing for as little as $135! You don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get started growing the first time.
- The theme of today's trophy pics is "Big Bud Bushes in Backyards". For some reason, a bunch of outdoor growers sent in pictures of their absolutely monstrous cannabis plants that totally dominate their respective backyards. These plants are so big they pay property tax!

10 Heartbreaking Moments
in Growing Weed
🌳➕💀➡💔😔
|
by Nebula Haze
It was Summer 2008 and as a beginner grower, I was proud of my beautiful happy cannabis seedling in a solo cup. A good friend asked me to visit for the weekend, and since the seedling only needed water every 2-3 days, I said yes. Before driving to her house, I watered the seedling and put the solo cup in a thin layer of water so it wouldn’t dry out.
That weekend was hot. The temperature soared to 98°F (37°C) but I didn’t think about my seedling at home, which happened to be in a room with no AC…
|
When I got home after an exhilarating weekend, I came home to this heartbreaking scene
The overwatering (you should never let plant pots sit directly in water!) combined with heat had almost killed my poor seedling. I almost cried (okay, maybe I did shed a few tears). Luckily, in this case, I was able to give the plant some TLC and bring it back from
the dead.
Whether you’ve been growing cannabis for a while or are a total beginner, you’ll eventually face your own heartbreaking moment. Sometimes you can fix things, and sometimes you have to come to terms with losing a plant.
I decided to put a list together of 10 common heartbreaking growing events so you’re mentally prepared and won’t be too hard on yourself. This stuff happens to every grower, including me!
1.) Sudden Plant Death
Your plant is fine one day, and the next day it’s dead. When that happens, it hurts! The cause is...
What Makes Cannabis Plants Grow 3-Point Leaves?
|
|
Your plant is sending you a message when it starts growing 3-point leaves
|
Every cannabis strain is a little different, and some plants grow with more “points” on leaves that others. Most cannabis plants grow a few 3-point leaves as seedlings, but by the time a cannabis plant is mature, the leaves usually have more points.
The second set of leaves after germination usually has 3 points each. After that, leaves normally have more than three.
What is considered a “normal” number of points? Seven is the most common though it varies by strain. Seeing 5, 9, 11 or even 13 points isn’t that unusual. Though typically an odd number, occasionally you’ll see leaves with an even number of points.
Your growing conditions affect this, too. Big, fast-growing plants in an ideal environment tend to grow leaves with more points.
Cannabis leaves most often have 7 points
But what if you had a plant with “normal” leaves that starts growing 3-finger leaves? What does that mean?

"Your site had grown so much in-depth and authority that you deserve some sort of award."
Wow, thanks I-
"I do have one reaction, tho...."
Oh! Let's hear it!
Have you made it clear to new growers that beautiful plants and the fist-sized colas are not what they can expect their first few grows? It would be discouraging if they were trying so (too) hard, and not able to get their plants to look like yours. Having said that, I realize I haven’t checked out your Beginner’s section. If you’ve already stressed it, then your site is perfect. Thanks for the access to such good info."
~Ron P.
First, I'm glad you find the website helpful! Second, you raised an interesting point I'd like to quickly address.
On your first grow, it's totally possible to grow huge, flawless plants. In fact, we have many first-timers send us pictures of absolutely incredible plants.
However, it's still important to remember that there's nothing wrong with having problems in your first few grows. I've been growing non-stop since 2008 and I still have problems appear. It's best to remember that we're all growing a living thing which means problems can arise. Be nice to yourself and your plants will follow suit. Thanks for bring up that point, Ron. 👍

"Fill in the blank.
In the hills of New York:
A: A weed grows
B: some weed grows
C: A whole lot of fucking weed grows!"
~Mr. K
Wow, I'm gonna go with C. Final answer! 🌳 ~Sirius

"These are from found seeds from an oz from BC. They are all female and are now starting to bud. It was a discount bag and I do not know the strain so it is Surprise Kush lol"
~Dave
I like the name "Surprise Kush". Judging by the size of this beast, "Godzilla Kush" would have been just as appropriate. 😂 ~Sirius
"My self made GrandDaddy Liberty outside in cali Sun! Growing in ground and looking pretty good! Thanks for the info to make this happen."
~Douglas
That's a beautiful plant tucked into some lush greenery. A+ picture! 👍 ~Sirius
"I am about week 4 flowering would you recommend getting rid of all lower branches and leafs still this late in flowering?
Worried that I might stress her enough to herm.......
Thanks for your information"
~Strain Hunter
You're growing outside, so you don't need to remove anything. You're already doing it perfectly! ~Sirius

"Growing cannabis can be a relaxing hobby in and of itself, but it also saves you money and keeps you from having to deal with shady characters. Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
