10 Tips, Tricks & Tactics For Epic Cannabis Pictures

I love taking pictures of my cannabis plants.
Yet sometimes the pictures don’t turn out the way I want. I’ve learned many tricks over the years, and today I would like to share with you what I’ve learned so you can take great cannabis pics so you could proudly show off your garden online.
Learn how to capture the natural beauty of cannabis in digital form
One thing I’ve really learned from growing marijuana is that sometimes it’s the little things we miss that can make a huge difference in our workload, save us time, or give us effortlessly better results.
Today, I would like to share some of the little things that have made a big difference to me as far as taking pictures. These tips, techniques, and tutorials will serve you well if you enjoy taking plant pictures, and I believe this info should be known by all growers!
1.) Clear The Background
Take a second to clean your grow room and the area around the plant. You will dramatically increase the quality of your photos when it’s just the plant in the photo. Taking 5 minutes to pick up any stray items or leaves will make a huge difference in your final result.
Try to take pictures of plants against a plain background whenever possible. A white wall works great, but any plain-colored background will help people see your plant in full effect.
If you want stellar pictures, it’s worth the 10 minutes to clean the area and think about presenting a clear picture of only what you want to show.
What am I even supposed to be looking at here?
(pic from when I first started growing)
I guess I was just really excited there were live marijuana plants in my closet 🙂
Cannabis pictures look better with a clean, clear background
Before taking the shot, take a moment to run your eyes around the borders of the frame just to double-check that you’re not accidentally capturing something you don’t want in the photo. Make sure you have a clear shot of the subject you’re trying to take. It should
be completely exposed. For example, avoid the inclusion of random pieces of leaves from the sides covering up anything you want to see.
This shot would have been better if the grower had taken the time to move the leaf on the left side out of the way so you can see the entire bud
A clean black background is always nice
2.) Frame the Picture
Another idea is to look for anything that might make a good frame for the picture. For example...

What I'm Growing Right Now
|
|
I topped this plant a bunch of times and spread it out until it filled the tent. I initiated 12/12 at the end of September so it's been flowering a little over 5 weeks. I'm letting it go wild besides watering daily.
This is just for fun. I had an extra Pineapple Chunk plant that was otherwise headed for the bin and an empty clone tent with this light in it. I thought it would be fun to see what happens if I let a plant grow this many buds at once and flower under the HLG 65. Normally I would have pruned it to just a handful of main buds but even if there's a lot of larf it's all getting turned into hash or edibles. However, I've been surprised how hefty the buds are
getting!
Check my Instagram profile for posts on how I trained it.

Here's one of my other tents. The plants seem to be loving the Electric Sky ES300 V2 LED grow lights so far.
Which grow light do you want to see me test next? Which is your favorite?

"Dear GWE!
First and foremost: a heartfelt thank you for the incredible work you do! Medicinal cannabis has literally helped save my life and I would not have given it a chance, even less grown it, hadn't it been for you and the content you share.
Second: it would be interesting to read an article on grow room hygiene. Though such a vital part of healthy growing, I find it an aspect often overlooked. After all, a grow room can get really yucky really fast and bring with it so many unneccesary complications; mold, bugs, odor, fire hazards (as I noticed you mentioned in your article on fire prevention), etc. In addition, there is the aspect of growers often using harmful cleaning products to attack the
problem, which is equally unfortunate.
Yet again, thank you!"
~S
First:Thanks for the praise!
Second: That's a fantastic idea. We're defnitely going to write an article on grow room hygiene. 👍 ~Sirius

"I want to thank you for opening my eyes to what can happen when you mix water, combustibles and electricity together in any space but especially a grow tent.
After reading your article my mind raced through everything that could happen with my hydroponic grow and caused me to correct the fire hazards that to anyone else were apparent but I had somehow overlooked.
I redid my electrical connections splitting the power between two circuits, installing gfi strips and mounting a fireball type extinguisher. Thanks to your timely article I am more aware of the fire hazards that could occur.
Thank you so much!"
~Maddoggg
It's great to hear that there's another grower who is now safe from fire hazards. I want every grower (and their weed) to stay safe! 🙏 ~Sirius
Ya did good, kid! Real good! 👍 ~Sirius
If you look closely, you can see the inside of the bud being lit up by light reflecting off of trichomes!
