Issue #449 - Sunday, November 22, 2020
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- Ask anyone who has been growing for a few years and you'll notice a common theme: they tend to have way more weed than they need! When sweet, sticky homegrow bud starts accumulating in your cabinets, make sure you're keeping it fresh for as long as you possibly can!
- If you have grown more weed than you can realistically store, it's time to do some post-processing! Hash, edibles, tinctures and dry hash, here we come!
- Besides weed, you may also want to store seeds. Learn how long seeds stay viable.
- As Thanksgiving approaches in America, let us give thanks. Thanks for trichomes, thanks for THC, THCA, CBD, and CBN. Thanks for the entourage effect, hash, Gorilla Glue #4, and thanks for the fact that so many of us can freely share pictures of our cannabis plants. All humans deserve the right to cultivate!

Learn How to Store Weed So It Lasts!

How Long is My Weed Good For?
When it comes to storing your cannabis, the method you choose makes a huge difference in how long your buds maintain potency and freshness! But what’s the best way to store weed? Is it vacuum-sealing? Will freezing your buds hurt them in any way? I’ve tried a few different methods for storing marijuana over the years, and today I want to share what has and hasn’t worked for me!
Properly stored buds have some natural color and don’t crumble apart
Properly stored weed looks full and sparkly, with at least a little color life. Marijuana buds are often green with orange hairs, but sometimes you’ll see other colors like purple or
pink.
Improperly Stored Buds Start Turning Brown and Crumbly
Brown or tan weed isn’t necessarily bad, as well-cured cannabis also loses color, but brown and crumbly nugs are often old or weren’t stored in an airtight container. If there are random brown patches on otherwise good-looking weed, it could also be a sign of mold!
These brown, crumbly buds weren’t stored properly
How to Store Cannabis to Last for Years
If you grow a lot of cannabis at once, you want it to last long enough to use it all. Outdoor growers usually harvest once a year and may need to store buds until the next year’s harvest.
Luckily, it’s pretty easy and cheap to store your buds. You don’t need any special equipment besides an air-tight glass jar.
Air-tight glass jars are one of the best places to store cannabis buds
But that's definitely not your only option!
Here are the main methods and tools for storing cannabis, with the pros and cons of each:
Got Too Much Weed to Store?

If you love growing and follow all the instructions on GrowWeedEasy.com, you may find yourself with more weed than you can use in the foreseeable future.

Today we talked about storage, but maybe you've already grown too much. In that case, your issue isn't as much about storage as using up the weed you have before the next harvest comes in.
But what to do with all your extra weed? Post-processing!

How long do cannabis seeds remain viable?
|
|
Cannabis seeds should be kept in a cool, dark place such as a basement or in your refrigerator. They should be in an air-tight container and must stay dry. Putting a cotton ball in with the seeds before storage can help suck up any extra moisture (this is why you often see little bits of cotton in seed breeder packs).
Heat and moisture ‘signal’ to the seeds that it’s time to sprout, so as long as you keep the seeds in a dry, dark environment they can remain viable for years. I have heard cases of seeds sprouting after being in storage for 5 or even 10 years. However, you will notice that older seeds take longer to germinate than fresh seeds and a few of them may not sprout at all. As time goes on, fewer and fewer of the seeds will successfully germinate.

Result is ridiculous.

MmmHmmm! There are strains that are popular, but don't back up that popularity (in my opinion). Gorilla Glue #4 deserves its popularity...and then some! ~Sirius

I don't know if "The Church Gethsemane" is the name of this strain or the church you go to, but either way I'm a believer now! 🙏 ~Sirius

Fun Fact: The GrowWeedEasy.com newsletter is delivered every Sunday, but where does the "Sun" in Sunday come from? In ancient times, every day of the week had a corresponding God (for example Thursday was named after the god Thor). Sunday honors the goddess Sol, who carried the sun across the sky every day on her chariot. Her brother Mani carried the moon. You may be able to guess which day was named after him! Learn more.

"Growing cannabis can be a relaxing hobby in and of itself, but it also saves you money and keeps you from having to deal with shady characters. Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
