Issue #452 - Sunday, December 13, 2020
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- How long does it take to grow weed? When we first started growing, it was weirdly difficult to get a straight, actionable answer. Today, not only will we answer that question, we'll make sure you know everything you need to know on the subject!
- Lab results are in! If you followed my recent soil vs coco grow journal, you may be interested in which grow medium won for yields, potency, and smell. We have to admit we were amazed to finally see the results.
- This week's trophy pictures are a bit of chaos...in a good way! We got an art-school attending plant that's working on the cover for its first album. We've got beautiful purple bud, and a grow that could only be described as "WHAT AM I LOOKING AT?!"
- Someone had a bug on their plant and wanted to know what it was. The picture they took was so nice, I had to share it with you all! Can you guess the name of this bug? This one will be much easier for outdoor growers than indoor growers...

How Long Does It Take to Grow Weed Indoors?

This is one of the most common questions we receive from curious soon-to-be indoor cannabis growers: How long does it really take to grow weed? What’s the growing timeline?
It’s actually a really good question! Every new marijuana grower should know how much work they’re signing up for! The short answer is…
The Average Indoor Cannabis Grow Takes 3-5 Months
Ultimately, How Long to Harvest Marijuana Depends on the Desired Yields, Strain and Grow Style
Today I will show you how to plan your grow so it takes the amount of time you want!
You may have been following my grow journal which pitted clones against each other in coco vs soil. The results are in and I have to admit I'm amazed to finally see the results.
Coco Grow Medium and Nutrients
- Mother Earth Coco + Perlite Mix
- Nutrients: Flora trio + Calimagic
Soil Grow Medium and Nutrients
- Bottom 1/3 of each pot: Nature's Living Soil Super Soil Concentrate
- Top 2/3: Fox Farm Coco Loco soil
- All nutrients came from the soil (no nutrients in the water)
Results
- Coco won for yields and trichome production
- Soil won for THC percentage and terpenes
Wow! How cool is that!
Discussion: The soil plants were ready to harvest before the coco plants. As a result, the coco plants were harvested on the early side. The coco tent could have gone on for a few more weeks so chances are their yields and possibly potency would have increased in that time. However, the super soil plants were at the end of their harvest window, and for the sake of the experiment I took all the plants down at the same time.
As far as smoke reports, there is no clear winner. Some people prefer the coco buds while others prefer the soil buds. In fact, it seems different for each strain. Honestly, all three of these strains have proven to be really popular regardless of how buds were grown. I recommend them all (Power Africa, Peyote Critical, and Critical Purple Kush).

"Hey, just wanted to thank you for the information. I haven't smoked in 15 years, and I've never grown before. But my state just said I can grow my own (it's so crazy to me still) so I figured I better figure out how. I've visited this site several times and haven't even come close to scratching the surface of all the information you've posted. I've yet to order or purchase a single piece of equipment I need but thanks to you, I'm going to start tonight. Like
I said, I really appreciate all the work you've done. Best regards."

Congrats on the newfound legalization in your state. It's great to live in a time where they're finally getting rid of these harmful laws. ~Sirius

"This is one of a couple girls that I moved out of a tent a few months ago, as I had started too many and it was getting really crowded in there. They weren’t super happy going outside at first, but adapted well. The color on this one is amazing and I can’t wait to give her a try. Your
website is a great resource and I can’t thank you enough for helping us Noobs!"
~The Curster
I totally agree; the color on that plant is indeed amazing. Let me know how it goes after you try it! 👍 ~Sirius

A grower sent in this beautiful picture. They want to know what this bug is and if it's harmful to ccannabis plants. Do you know the answer?
|
Answer:
This bug is known as a leafhopper. Although they're very pretty, they steal nutrients from the leaves of cannabis. If you see these, they need to go!

"Growing cannabis can be a relaxing hobby in and of itself, but it also saves you money and keeps you from having to deal with shady characters. Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
