Issue #453 - Sunday, December 20, 2020
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- Picture this: You walk over to see your beautiful, lush cannabis plants...but something's wrong! The leaves only have a few "points" and they're...round? You shout to the heavens, "What the heck is going on with my weed?!" It's re-vegging, my friend, and we'll show you how to prevent it!
- Want a weed concentrate that you can make with just ice water (no solvents?) Check out our picture tutorial on how to make bubble hash!
- Colas so chunky, it's concerning. Weed plant guarded by monks. Growers who unintentionally send extremely relevant trophy pics. Noob growers making it works. It's an amazing mixed bag of trophy pics this week and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Smooth Leaves?! What Causes It and How Do You Stop It?

What Causes Plants to Grow Smooth Leaves?
What does it mean to accidentally “re-veg” a cannabis plant? “Re-veg” is short for “re-vegetation” and refers to what happens if a plant that has started flowering re-enters the vegetative stage. The majority of cannabis plants are photoperiod strains, which need long nights in order to make flowers/buds (indoor growers typically give 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness a day). If the
plant starts getting light during its night time it responds by re-vegging.
Sometimes even just a little light like a blinking LED in your grow tent is all it takes to interrupt your plant’s beauty sleep.
Re-vegging happens when flowering plants get light during their 12-hour dark period. A few interrupted nights or even a small light leak can start a re-veg!
Re-vegging cannabis plants show odd leaf symptoms such as:
- smooth leaf edges
- buds stop developing
- long leaves or new stems grow out of bud sites
- main stem sprouts 1-point leaves (just one “finger” per leaf instead of the typical 7 or 9 for adult cannabis leaves)
- curling leaves (may look like heat stress)
- wrinkled, twisted, or unusual growth
This plant was put outside too early in the Spring season, which caused it to start flowering due to the short nights. As Spring progressed the nights grew shorter and it began revegging, growing these oddly smooth leaves directly out of the center stem.
Ready to Make "Bubble Hash"?
|
|
Cannabis bubble hash is made using ice water (no solvents whatsoever!). It has a gold crumbly appearance and extremely high potency.
|
The main reason to make bubble hash (in my opinion) over other types of hash is that the perceived potency is higher. The effects simply feel “stronger” than most other cannabis concentrates. If that’s what you want, bubble hash is amazing! Learn more about bubble hash vs dry ice hash.
At its simplest, you can make bubble hash with bubble bags, ice, and two buckets. However, if you get special bubble hash "washing machine" it basically automates the process. Your main job at that point is simply scrapping up the bubble hash.

"Hi, first time grower with an outwardly healthy but super dense plant from a random generic seed a friend gave me. I'm concerned cuz I always hear a plant needs airspace for ventilation and should be more "branchy". Should I try to thin the plant out? Thanks for any info."
~Rich
The density of your plant is a little odd, but not a problem yet. The real issue here is that your plant is "Re-Vegging" like Nebula explained in the article above. You can tell by the round leaves on top! Make sure the plant is getting 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness every day and it will go back to flowering normally. ~Sirius

"Your plant is green, healthy, and proctected by a monk. [Look closely at base of plant] I approve! ~Sirius
~Rak
I saw these plants and for a second, I mistakenly thought they might need to be on a diet. That's how beefy these plants are. 💪 ~Sirius
"I am a first time serious want to be grower and absolutely love and depend on your site, it’s my go to for info or issues.
Due to the pandemic, I just started going indoors, outdoors and evening cloning as well. All mediums had different issues from pest to nutrient burn to lighting. Each time I was able to go into your site and determine and identify the issue and remedy. I only grow 1-3 plants and have harvested a few times now, but each harvest was not perfect success. Because of your go to site- GWE, I’ve learned a lot of what to and what not to do. now going on my 4th harvest of
only 1 plant, a Bruce Banner! Patience, proper watering and lighting are the biggest keys and this plant is the biggest most healthiest I’ve had with no pest. 6-8 more weeks til harvest.
Thank you GWE and please keep posting, we (I) are depending on you."
~Brian M.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. It really means a lot to hear from you all that we're doing a good job. 🙏 ~Sirius

"Growing cannabis can be a relaxing hobby in and of itself, but it also saves you money and keeps you from having to deal with shady characters. Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
