Issue #463 - Sunday, February 28, 2021
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- How can a grower get a reasonable idea of what kind of yields to expect? How can a grower know WHY their plants aren't yielding the amounts they expect? Today's article will show you how to use the 'limiting factor' to answer both of these questions.
- Ever wonder why seedlings in a big pot grow sooooo slow? It usually has to do with how you're watering! Learn how to water your seedlings so they grow as fast as possible.
- The subjects in this week's "Trophy Pics of the Week" are renegades. They don't conform to the "normal" ideas of what a cannabis plant is supposed like. One's tiny, one has extra digits, and one is just a straight-up freakshow. One is just a regular plant, but it's a beaut, though!

What's the Limiting Factor in YOUR Grow? 👩🔬🌳🤔
|
|
Two of the most common questions from new cannabis growers are, “How much weed can I expect in my setup?” and “How can I improve yields?”
What’s the maximum amount of weed you can produce with your setup? Discover the answer today!
If you’re thinking about growing cannabis for the first time, you probably want to know what yields to expect. You don’t want to invest time and money if you won’t be happy with the results.
That’s where the “limiting factor” comes in.
In nature, a limiting factor is the key environmental condition that restricts a population size. For example, the maximum population of rabbits in an area is limited by the number of local foxes. The more foxes (which prey on rabbits), the fewer rabbits.
When growing cannabis, a limiting factor is something that restricts the amount of bud you can harvest. For example, a couple of large plants could yield over a pound of weed with a high-yielding strain under a 600W LED light. But if you only grow one plant in a tiny Solo cup, the small size of the plant becomes a limiting factor because tiny plants can only produce a few ounces of weed even in perfect conditions.
Today's article will show you how to figure out exactly what factor is limiting your yields
Learn how container size, grow space, and grow light affect your harvest! Plus learn tips and tricks to increase your yields in any setup.
How to Water a Seedling in a Big Pot
|
Sometimes you want to start your cannabis seeds or clones directly in their final container. This saves time transplanting from smaller containers to big ones. However, when seedlings are growing in a big pot, you need to make sure you’re watering plants properly.
Note: Plants may grow a little slower at first when you start them in a too-big container (though good watering practices should help).
|
It's easy to stunt small seedlings in big pots, but proper watering will help!
The main idea is to give a little water in a circle around the base of the seedling until it grows bigger and can drink more at a time
Small seedlings can’t drink more water than this yet!

"I've tried to ask a question but not good at technology. (In my 60's) BUT, I have been reading a lot of your articles and I think that I've solved my problems. Just wanted to take the time to say a really big THANK YOU. I'm from Australia, so your articles are helping people from all over the world. May your god's bless you. Thanks again."

"I don’t know much about growing cannabis, this was my first attempt from a gorilla Zkittles clone. I live in Australia and these two bad boys are three months old and started flowering about a week ago. They took off like wildflowers getting full sun for a good 8-10 hours and watered daily with nutrients twice a week. I have tied down the main branches and bent the other branches as they have grown.. interested to know what sort of yield i will get if anyone
can estimate."
~Paula
My professional opinion would be that you can expect to yield...a lot. ~Sirius

"Hi Nebula and Sirius:
A few months ago, I started this clone of one of my Harle Tsu plants to train into a bonsai. Your tutorial was great and I thought it would be cute in my kitchen window. However, it has flowered."
~Sandra
It has definitely flowered and it's super cute. Just look at that thing! 😍 ~Sirius
"Paris OG fan leaves."

Now these are some interesteing leaves. They all have extra fingers if you look near where they join at the stem. ~Sirius
This leaf has two extra fingers.
This one also has two extra fingers.
I don't even know what this one is trying to do. Neat design, though!
"Freakshow"
~MissFrankie
Freakshow is a strain from Humboldt Seed Co. and it's bred to grow leaves that don't look like cannabis leaves at all. They look just as weird when they're flowering. 🤯 ~Sirius

Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
