Harvest cannabis buds at the right time for the highest potency, yields, and best effects!
Cannabis buds can come in all shapes and sizes Although variety is the spice of life, it can make it a little confusing to know when to harvest your buds based on how your plants look. But if you harvest when buds are ready, you’ll get the best yields and potency, so it’s a good idea to try to harvest at the right time if you can.
When buds first appear on your plant, they look like little round puffs of hair. Each bud is made up of many white hairs (“pistils”) that stick straight out.
Not Ready
Baby buds (budlets) look like a ball of white hairs. These buds have many weeks to go!
Still Not Ready
As the marijuana plant buds get closer to harvest, they thicken, and those white pistils start to darken and curl up. You’ll notice your buds are slowly getting thicker and denser. However, if you still have a lot of straight white pistils, like this bud, you know you still have a few weeks to go.
Ready to Harvest!
You’re in the weed harvest window when most of the pistils have darkened and curled in. However, sometimes it’s a little challenging to identify when buds are ready since each plant is different, and buds can look very different at harvest time. So today, I want to share lots and lots of pictures of many different cannabis buds that are ready to harvest so you can see the full gamut of variation.

5 Best LED Grow Lights 2021
(Yields, Speed, & Bud Quality)

LEDs have overtaken HPS and other HIDs as the best cannabis grow light for nearly all home growers. Although there are some situations where LECs or HPS are a great choice (for example in a cold space where the heat of the lights is a positive thing, or if you’re making concentrates and want to use special bulbs to increase trichome production and terpene levels/smells), generally most home growers will be happiest with
LEDs.

Spider Farmer vs Mars Hydro LED grow journal update

Plants from the Mars Hydro LEDs drying in the tent they were grown in
|
Ah, harvest day. So satisfying and exciting.
Here is the Spider Farmer tent just before harvest
Pacific Punch under Spider Farmer LED (left plant)
Amnesia Lemon under Spider Farmer LED (middle plant)
Zweet Inzanity under Spider Farmer (right plant)
Here is the Mars Hydro tent. If you click on the pictures you may be able to see all the strings from plant yo-yos I used to hold the heavy buds up
Pacific Punch under Mars Hydro LED (left plant)
The Pacific Punch buds were super sparkly and purple in both tents. Genetics makes a huge difference in bud appearance
Amnesia Lemon under Mars Hydro LED (middle plant).
Zweet Inzanity from the Mars Hydro tent. This strain always comes out sparkly and yields well
This is exciting! I have an AC and a dehumidifier to keep the room at 60°F and 60% humidity while they're drying. I hung buds from inside the tent with the exhaust fan turned to the lowert setting for gentle airflow. I've found this environment provides consistently great results even if you're drying a lot of buds at once.
Typically buds take about 10 days to dry in this setup, so chances are I won't have an update for you next week's newsletter since they won't be dry yet. However, the week after will have final dry weight results, and the week after that we should have the cannabinoid and terpene lab results back.
I'm actually a little amazed at just how similar the two tents and all the buds look. I've done side-by-side grows before with clones, and usually, there are at least some visible differences. I can't wait to see what the scale and lab results have to say. One thing for sure is both these lights performed awesomely!
Love,
Nebula
