Issue #490 - Sunday, September 5, 2021
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- IS TMV real? This is a question we've been pondering for years as the method of confirming TMV is beyond a layman's means. Luckily, the Ministry of Agriculture in British Columbia, Canada took up the challenge. They had some very surprising and equally useful information. Check it out below!
- Seed Supreme recently moved to the United States and has a great selection of different strains including American genetics. Last week we asked you about your experience with them, and dozens of readers wrote us about your results. Learn more!
- I was so impressed by the pictures in this week's "Trophy Pics of the Week" that I refuse to try to come up with a category. Wait, never mind. The category is "fantastic plants looking super-majestic while chilling outdoors under some beautiful sunlight". What do you think? Is that catchy, or too catchy?

Is Tobacco Mosaic Virus Real?
Canada Says "Yes!"
🍁👩🏫🌳
|
|
|
Can Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) spread to cannabis plants? Yes. Several mosaic viruses have been detected in cannabis plants (including subspecies that normally attack tobacco, cucumbers, and alfalfa) by the Canadian government.
However, there isn’t much evidence of widespread transmission in cannabis plants. Not yet anyway.
Should you be worried about TMV infecting your cannabis plants? Probably not.
What is it anyway? TMV is commonly found in tobacco plants and causes splotchy or twisted leaves, strange mottling (a “mosaic”), slowed growth, and reduced yields. It has spread to several other species of plants besides tobacco, including
cannabis.
Note: Mosaic virus doesn’t affect humans, but plants that get infected may not grow as fast or yield as well as they could have.
Did you Know? TMV was the first virus ever to be discovered.
TMV was first identified in tobacco plants in 1892 but is now known to infect at least 125 species of plants, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and many types of flowers. It can live in the soil but mainly travels from plant to plant by direct contact. It can also be transferred from one plant to another via your hands. Some
growers have claimed to see the symptoms after exposing their plants to tobacco.
Here’s a pic of a tobacco plant with confirmed TMV – the mottled leaves are the main symptom besides overall slow growth.
But what about our beloved cannabis plant? How can you tell if a plant has TMV, and what do you do if a plant catches it?
Seed Supreme Comes Highly Recommended!

Seed Supreme recently moved to the United States from Europe and has been making a splash. It carries a mix of both American and European cannabis genetics, and seeds typically arrive at US addresses in
under 2 weeks. Last Sunday, I asked you what you thought about them.
I have to admit I was surprised at just how many readers replied to the newsletter last week with personal reviews! Dozens of growers wrote in to tell us they had good experiences with the Seed Supreme customer service, payment options, and the quality of the genetics.
So for my next grow I will be featuring two of their auto-flowering strains so we can all experience their auto-flowering genetics together.
(I haven't decided on the 3rd autoflowering strain yet; probably Lemon Berry Candy OG Auto or Inzane in the Membrane Auto)

Be extra careful when ordering seeds online
|
Speaking of seed sources, unfortunately, we've received reports of fake accounts on Facebook and Instagram that claim to sell seeds but disappear after receiving payment.
Whenever buying seeds from a person on social media, be extra careful!
Always double and triple check to make sure you're sending money to a legitimate company or trusted person.
Be aware of scammers pretending to sell seeds in our name!
Here's an example of a fake direct message one of our readers received on social media. This is not the real Nebula! I will never contact you this way.
Please spread the word to other growers! We're in this together.

"Re the pic of the Freakshow stealth you published, it looks kinda skinny and freakish, how about this, attached, Frisian Duck from Dutch Passion seed bank in Amsterdam. Developed for stealth and to my mind they managed it.
I've spent my life fantasizing a cannabis plant looking like nettles, and now here it is!"
~Peter
Frisian Duck is so stealthy, it's hard to believe it's cannabis at all. Nice! 🕵️♂️ ~Sirius

This last picture is a close up of "some visitors, identified as Southern Stink Bugs, which come from Europe and have been found in the UK for a few years now. All squashed as the best way of getting rid." Bug off, stinkbugs!
"The mothers on the shelf in front of the green house should start flowering in a couple weeks (yipeee!) so I had to figger out how to hold them up.
I rigged this netting up,it should work (I hope) They should stretch right up into it.(yipeee again!)
The upright 2 x 2's are hose clamped to fence posts driven into the ground. The last pix is the other mothers on the bank. I'm 6 feet tall so they have 5' remesh cages around them and they've grown right up out of them. Grow happy, grow lots!"
~Mr. K
These pics are over a month old, but I found them and I couldn't not post them. Mr.K, you are a continuous source of great pics. I'm so envious of your backyard! 🤯 ~Sirius

For those who aren't familiar, we post pictures of his beautiful garden fairly often.

A little while back it appeared the plant was ready then too much sunshine outside my plant then Turn finishing two reveging so then I had the top of the plant with one leaf starting to veg all over again and the bottom of the plant bud now I’m letting it run its cycle let’s see what happens within the next couple weeks"
~Keith
Wow. The plants are chunky, the background is colorful but not distracting and the lighting is fantastic (thanks, sun!). Well done on all accounts! 🏆 ~Sirius
