actionable marketing guide

Dear

Last Friday I had the pleasure of having breakfast with Top Rank's CEO, Lee Odden, who was in New York speaking. Whether you're talking about search, social media or content, Lee is the king of Optimization. In fact he wrote the book, Optimize.

My point here isn't to be the TMZ or Gawker of the marketing world. (We didn't even take a selfie!!!)

While Odden and I have written about Influencer Relations, most marketers and PR professionals overlook the key point: It's about relationships!!!  Lee and I met at a conference in San Francisco back in 2006 and have been friends ever since.

Rather, our breakfast underscores an important point Peter Shankman, the founder of HARO, repeatedly made to my NYU classes: "Always take the meeting!"

Shankman acquired a seemingly unprofitable knitting shop as his client because he was willing to take the time drive to their suburban store. The store had deeper pockets than an outsider would expect.

Based on the problem of getting customers to leave New York City, Shankman came up with the idea for a Yarn Bus (Think Oscar Meyermobile with balls of yarn.) The yarn buss attracted tons of media attention. (Want to know more about it? Read Peter Shankman's Can We Do That?!

Result: High profile, media bait client.

Want to meet me IRL and start building our working relationship? Then attend Content Marketing World. I'd be pleased if you'd use my affiliate link.
