actionable marketing guide

Dear

Greetings!

Last week, I joined my friends Andy Crestodina and Amanda Gant at Content Jam in the windy city.

Content Jam proves that you can create something amazing with a community. Content Jam is a one-day local Chicago event. Unlike many conferences and events, it's put together by a group of small marketing firms.

Community starts by building real life relationships. You have to get out from behind your computer and go someplace to meet people. Getting to know people face-to-face is very powerful for building your business. You're no longer just an email address or a Twitter handle.

Crestodina is a master at this. He's always introducing people and finding reasons to get together. Based on his personal relationships, Crestodina persuaded Barry Feldman, Nick Kellet and me to fly into Chicago to present at Content Jam.

Thanks to Crestodina, I had the opportunity to speak on 2 favorite topics of mine

Marketing Persona and Content Curation. The major take-aways were:

  • Creating a marketing persona helps drive increased revenue since you and your entire team have a better understanding of your target customer.

  • Using content curation can help your search optimization by using a combination of other people's content, links to the original information and original commentary. (Note this is based on research by Bruce Clay.)

You can follow Crestodina's lead by creating live events. They don't need to be full event extravaganzas. You can limit yourself to drinks or dinner. In fact, a number of the Chicago content marketers have a monthly dinner to talk shop.

If you're in Boston, I hope to see you at MarketingProfs B2B Forum later this week.  Here's a sneak peak of my session with Gini Dietrich and Andy Crestodina.

Hope to see you in real life at one of these events.

Happy marketing,

Content Marketing: Original Versus Curated Content
