actionable marketing guide

Dear ,

Greetings from NYC!

Last week, my husband and I lunched at The Modern, a Danny Meyer restaurant, adjacent to MoMA on West 53rd Street. Like many high-end restaurants in New York, it has a bar with smaller dishes and a dining room with a complete menu.

It’s where we celebrate important events and milestones. We love having a late lunch in the dining room by the window to view MoMA’s sculpture garden.

Modern FoodAny meal at The Modern focuses on spectacular food. The presentation and taste dazzle all five senses in ways that mere photographs or comments can’t fully communicate.

The Modern understands that service is at the core of the experience. Without superb attention to detail, the meal is, well, just a meal. It’s not an experience. The staff pays attention to details and adds final touches that enhance the experience.

If you dine at The Modern, please do me a favor and ask for Simon. Tell him that I recommended the restaurant to you.

I’ve written about Danny Meyer before. Check: What the Shake Shack and Pre-owned Mercedes Have in Common.

What can you learn from The Modern to improve your marketing?

  • Create experiences for your customers. Your offering encompasses more than just your product or service. It’s about your customer’s experience. How you enhance your customer’s interaction with your products and services makes your business memorable. Go that extra mile for your customers.

  • Make your service the key element of your business. How your customer is treated is what your customer remembers. It’s when your offering becomes real and creates memorable stories.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers looking to improve their marketing?

Focus on relevancy. When you are creating content and other marketing programs, focus on what is relevant and interesting for your audience.

Today’s buyers expect a higher level of personalization—they expect you, as the marketer, to know everything about them and to serve content that suits their needs. This is not a one and done process, as a marketer, make sure you are always testing your content and programs to determine that sweet spot.
