actionable marketing guide

Dear ,

I’m back from Content Marketing World in Cleveland, Ohio where 3,500 marketers painted the city orange.

As a born and bred New Yorker, I readily admit that Cleveland would never have made my bucket list of places to visit despite being home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

BUT Joe Pulizzi, the self proclaimed godfather of content marketing, and his Content Marketing Institute team have created one of the few must-attend marketing conferences. The show is so big that CMI signs welcome you in the airport!

Content Marketing World is a big fish of an event in a city that doesn’t host many conferences. It would be lost in Las Vegas or New York City. Content Marketing World is a well-run show that provides value to presenters, attendees and sponsors.

This year I had the honor of being the hostess with the mostest of the Social Media Track featuring Content Marketing Superstars:
Erin Monday (@ErinMonday),
Matt Patrick (@MatPatGT),
Lee Odden (@LeeOdden) and
Bob Gilbreath (@MktgWithMeaning).

Contribute to our mega post-Content Marketing World content post by answering these 2 questions by Monday, September 21st
  1. Why is social media critical to content marketing?

  2. What is your favorite piece of contextually relevant social media content? Please explain why?
Email your answers to: [email protected]
Don’t forget to include your name, company and Twitter handle!

BTW—Last year’s post based on contributions from my presentation attendees, How To Curate Content Like A Pro (8 Examples) appeared on CMI where it was one of the top performing posts of the quarter! To-date, it’s garnered 3000+ social media shares and 15,000+ pageviews—How’s that for visibility!

Expert Content Marketing Advice

Q: What’s your best piece of advice for readers looking to improve their marketing?

Build a loyal audience first over time, and then sell your products second. This is critical because so many brands are looking for short-term sales wins instead of building credibility and authority over one area. By monetizing too fast, it’s very difficult to build an audience over time.
