actionable marketing guide

Dear ,

Greetings from a snow covered New York City. While we were just under 2006’s record, we got a LOT of snow and wind.

People prepared. Trader Joe’s (aka TJs) had lines out the door across the city. My husband abandoned the TJs line for CVS to get milk and olive oil. (BTW, it’s interesting to note that in the US, major drugstores have expanded their food offerings including more than milk, soda and snacks.)

With better forecasting and planning, the city handled the storm well. On Saturday afternoon all of our devices started going off at the same time with an emergency alert. The city told people to get all non-essential vehicles off the roads and train service was suspended.
The city got eerily quiet. We took advantage to unplug, stay warm, and be couch potatoes.

It worked. By Sunday morning our block was plowed leaving little snow mountains between the street and the sidewalk.

As a proponent of slow marketing, I applaud the use of forecasting to yield better results. In fact, two marketers I admire, Peter Shankman and Derek Halpern used the opportunity to reach email subscribers with suggestions on managing the storm including a reason to buy from them.

One of my favorite yarn stores, let its customers know that it would be closed. (In case people were seeking a place to escape their small apartments.)

Marketing Lesson: Take advantage of marketing opportunities. Of course, you have be careful not to be out of synch with the event.

In case you’re like me thinking about warmer weather, why not consider attending Social Media Marketing World 2016 in San Diego (April 17 to 19th).

I'll be speaking for the first time with over 100+ of the world's top social media marketers. I’m running a workshop called: “How to Create Quality Blog Posts Quickly and Consistently.”

I attended SMMW last year. I learned a ton and had a blast. The best part: I met many of my social media colleagues face-to-face.

To encourage you to join me at Social Media Marketing World 2016, I’m offering to meet with the first 10 people who register and attend the conference through my SMMW affiliate link. It’ll be your opportunity to AMA about marketing!!!
