actionable marketing guide
Dear , Last night my husband and I attended a PenFaulkner reading at the KGB Bar nestled on one of the side streets of New York City’s East Village. It’s something I haven’t done in years. The KGB Bar as it’s now known stands for Kraine Gallery Bar. It's in the heart of NYC's Ukrainian community on Manhattan's Lower East Side with roots dating back to a prohibition-era speakeasy. In the 1950s, it became a meeting place for social activists and blacklisted writers before the characters of the hit show The Americans would have landed in Washington DC. By 1994, the bar was reborn as a home for literary readings showcasing up and coming writers. ![]() As a writer, it’s important to support other writers by showing up at their readings and buying their books. Living in New York City, this is easier to accomplish than in many other areas of the country. There many places that support author and poet readings including cool bars. Listening to an author read his work is a different experience from reading it on your own. It gives you insight into how the writer heard the words in his head when he was writing it. It enhances your experience. Besides, it brings each of us back to our childhood when our parents read to us. Reading is a key element of building your writing habit. In turn, having a solid reading habit improves your writing. Homogenized content is spreading across business websites and social media faster than spilled milk.
Homogenized content is like the containers of milk mass packaged for your supermarket.
If you’ve never had farm fresh milk, you may not know what you’re missing. (I’m lucky. One of my friends married a farmer.) Continue reading
