actionable marketing guide
Dear , Yesterday was Memorial Day in the United States. It’s a day that we remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country as members of the military. My husband and I feel very lucky as we observe this day that marks the beginning of summer. Yet, for the two of us, Memorial Day holds a deeper meaning. Our fathers, Manny and Norman, both served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Both dads returned home decorated veterans. In fact, my father believed their paths crossed after looking at my father-in-law’s scrapbook from the war. My husband’s father, Manny, arrived on the shores of Normandy on D-Day+6. His unit was overrun during the Battle of the Bulge and he was wounded by a grenade exploding nearby. Luckily, he survived. Of course, that didn’t stop the U.S. Army from sending my husband’s mother a letter informing her that her husband was missing in action and presumed dead. Fortunately, a family friend had seen Manny in the hospital and wrote to her that he was okay. Manny returned to service. He spent the rest of the war safely in the back lines. By contrast, my father, Norman, landed at Le Harve, Normandy after the ship he was on survived German gunfire on the Atlantic. From there, he was to take a ferry to England and a train to London. Yet, my father was lucky! Someone in army operations miscalculated both the ferry and train capacity. As a result, my father and 20 other American soldiers spent 5 days waiting in Le Harve. Later, my father learned that the train he was supposed to be on was bombed. To those who made the greatest sacrifice for our nation, we honor you.
