actionable marketing guide

Dear

Fall is in the air in New York. It’s that time of year when the days remain warm but there’s an evening chill.

Tomorrow, my husband and I are headed to Boston for MarketingProfs B2B Forum (#MPB2B).  We’re taking a bus and I’m hoping to get a glimpse of the changing foliage through New England.

I love MarketingProfs B2B forum. There’s no detail that’s too small for the MarketingProfs team.

Compared to the other marketing conferences I attend it’s relatively small. It feels like a large party of friends and colleagues.

Early risers have non-business options beyond checking email and working. This includes speed networking, meditation and photography. These activities allow attendees to make connections on a more personal level. I’m hoping to get up in time to join Steve Garfield’s Friday morning photography walk.

I believe conferences are key for connecting with other marketers face-to-face, person-to-person. (Yes—I know I’ve said this before.) There’s no substitute for spending time with people to build deeper relationships. This goes beyond your clients and employees.

Personally, I’m looking forward to meeting Jeremy Miller. I’ve been talking to Jeremy since his bestseller, Sticky Branding, came out last year. But I’ve never met him.

If you’re attending MarketingProfs B2B, please introduce yourself. I love meeting readers. Don’t be shy.

I’m presenting Teach Me How: Not One and Done: How to Turn a Single Marketing Asset into Content that Keeps on Giving … and Giving … and Giving. It’s Thursday, October 20th at 11:15 am. It’s an action-oriented session to help you get the most out of every content effort.

Additionally, I’m holding office hours on Thursday afternoon from 2:00pm until 3:15pm. It’s located in the Westin Birch Bar. Please stop by. Say hello and get your questions answered.

Want to learn how to get more out of a conference?

Read Aaron Orendorff’s How to Network a Conference Like a Jedi: 55 Tips published on Content Marketing Institute. Also worth your time is his back story of his collaboration with Nadya Khoja. It explains how they create multiple stories and attract a ton of attention with influencers, attendees and social media.

For another perspective, get the behind the scenes story of great conference content from Orbit Media’s Andy Crestodina. He attracted similar attention with his Content Marketing World Year Book and his Ask It Forward video. Check Andy’s 34 Ways to Get the Most From a Conference.

Lastly, here are my suggestions for attending a conference.

Don’t forget that conference attendance is a content bonanza. Here’s how to take advantage of it: before, during and after

If you’re located near Boston, there’s still time to attend MarketingProfs B2B Forum or meet even if you don't attend. I'm in Boston Friday afternoon.

If you can’t attend IRL, follow the action on social media using their hashtag #MPB2B.

Happy Marketing,
Heidi.

A Blueprint for Content Marketing Success

84% of marketers plan to increase their content marketing spend over the next 5 years but less than half have any real confidence such content investments are paying off.

Customers delay contact with Sales until they are 57% of the way through the purchase process, which means content must grab customers’ attention and drive purchase intent early on.

It's important to choose the right strategy because if Marketers are not connecting with customers through content, they may not connect with them at all.

Our latest research shows Marketers how to consistently create content grounded in differentiated insights that customers and prospects will value.
