It’s been a week bookended by natural occurrences from a solar eclipse to a category 4 storm.

Monday’s eclipse transformed New York City, especially its wider avenues and parks, into major viewing spaces. People were friendlier than usual and shared their various solar viewing objects.

My husband and I headed for Central Park but only made it as far as the steps of the Museum of Natural History. We got seats on the steps near a well informed 10 year old student who was part of a special school program at the museum.

A number of roof top bars and pools took advantage of the eclipse to sell special seating and cocktails. Even the post office issued a touch sensitive stamp to commemorate the eclipse.

While New York City is sunny and dry as I write this, my heart goes out to those in the path of Hurricane Harvey. I sincerely hope that you and yours are safe.

Having lived through Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, I have some insight into the fears and challenges such natural disasters cause. Last weekend, while visiting friends on the southern shore of Long Island, we saw waterfront homes that were still in disrepair almost 5 years later.

It’s hard to believe that the summer’s almost over and Labor Day is a week away. Since many people take vacation this week the city is quiet except for the big box stores that are busy promoting Back-to-School as students stream back to the city.

Personally, I use this time to get organized for the beginning of marketing season both in terms of work and content creation. From now through Thanksgiving, there’s a variety of events focused on different aspects of marketing across the US and elsewhere.

Next week is Content Marketing World and I’m excited to see my content marketing colleagues in Cleveland.

If you’re planning to attend, don’t forget to bring some orange colored accessories to be part of the larger Content Marketing World community. Personally, I’ve got my orange beret and shawl ready to be packed.

Take some time to plan which sessions you want to attend. I’m teaching an Interactive Content Marketing Pre-Conference Workshop on Tuesday. (BTW, you can still get a ticket to Content Marketing World or add on to a ticket you already have.)

Also plan relevant content to support your attendance and your business.

Until next week, I’ve got to get a headstart on the work I won’t have time to do while I’m in Cleveland.
