Actionable Marketing Guide Newsletter – Happy Holidays

Dear ,

The holidays have tiptoed into New York along with colder weather.

As the days grow shorter and dimmer, there’s still light in our eyes and love in our hearts.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you, your family, your friends and your social media contacts the best for the holidays whichever ones you celebrate.

The key to holiday joy is to share time with them.

Recent research revealed that visiting your parents and grandparents helps extend their lives. Wrapped up in our world of wired devices, it's often easy to overlook how important it is to be physically present and in the moment with the people we love.

No matter what else was going on or how terrible she felt my mother cracked the biggest smile and called out my name whenever I entered her home. For me, it made the trip there worth it every time.

In addition to spending time with those close to you, find some space during this holiday period and let yourself be. Relax even if it’s only a hot shower. (Hey—I live in New York City where private space comes at a premium price!)

I hope that you find the time to take a break from work. You deserve it! I was lucky to have a boss early in my career who believed that vacation time was necessary.

I’m going to be practicing what I preach. As a result, there won’t be any Actionable Marketing Guide newsletters until January.

If you’d like to drop me a line, I will still be checking email.

Happy holidays and best wishes for 2018,

Heidi.

Chief Marketing Officers at Work

Q: What’s your best piece of advice for readers looking to improve their marketing?

Get empathy.

The CMOs I interviewed in my book “get” their customers in a visceral way that allows them to create marketing campaigns that could never come from a focus group, market research, or data. Not that those tools aren’t valuable, but empathy trumps all.
