Hello, my friend!
It’s easy to understand that our best choices will come from the space of calm. Sometimes it
isn't quite so easy to figure out how to get ourselves to that place.
A suggestion the horses guided me to is to stop trying so hard to figure it out. A busy mind
isn’t a calm mind, especially if there is some concern or worry in our thoughts.
One way to stop that mental churning is to check in with our bodies. The check in could be as
quick as noticing if our posture is aligned, or if we can feel both feet on the ground, or checking to see how we’re breathing. We could also do a more involved exercise such as progressive muscle relaxation.
We could even set ourselves up to create a new habit of checking in with our bodies even
before our minds are churning. While we’re driving, waiting in line for check out at the grocery store, noticing if we’re sitting crooked are some examples of how we could increase our body awareness. Maybe some of those times when we reach for our phones to pass time while we wait, we could first check in to see if our body is in alignment. The more we bring out attention to our bodies, the more we will be grounded in the present moment. The calmer we will
be.
Start a “vicious” circle of calm. A calm body calms our mind, which calms our body, which
calms our mind……etc.
The little moments of focused effort will pay off. Give it a
go.
Your horse will thank you.
You got this.
Sending you support and encouragement,
