Actually, I didn’t know what Epiphany was until our kids were older. Even so, we formed some family traditions that I’ve continued. We also had some Epiphany traditions that I didn’t even realize we were doing.

Epiphany is our celebration of the wise men following Jesus’ star. It is celebrated on January 6, twelve days after Christmas. Below are three of our family Epiphany traditions.

Christmas Thank You Notes

We used the time between Christmas & Epiphany to learn thankfulness.  Our kids wrote thank you notes for the gifts they received.  They mostly complained as they wrote those thank you notes.

However, as adults they all thank me for teaching them to write thank you notes and cards. Each of our kids continue to write thank you’s to family, ministry partners and business associates. They see the value of thanking others for their gift or service.

Grab my free printable with our 5 steps to teaching your kids how to write thank you notes this year. You’ll be already for your kids to write those thank you cards.

12 Days of Christmas
I wish I knew more about the 12 Days after Christmas, so I could use it as a time of teaching & sharing with my kids. Did you know the 12 Days of Christmas are after Christmas? They are the 12 days between Christmas and Epiphany.

I’m making up for lost time by sharing it with my grandkids. In our Christmas Celebrations Bundle, I share some ideas on gifts & activities for each of the twelve days of Christmas. You’ll also discover the Christian meaning behind each of the 12 gifts. For example, a partridge in a pear tree represents Jesus coming to earth. Two turtle doves remind us of the Old Testament and New Testament.

Feast of the Epiphany
We’ve had several feasts to celebrate Epiphany – the coming of the Wise Men. One year, we tried to have a feast with our families in El Salvador.  The kids in our foundation painted kitchen towels as a service project. My hope was these gifts remind them of the gifts the Wise Men gave to Jesus.
