		Remote Employee Appreciation Day

	Tomorrow, September 22, is official Remote Employee Appreciation Day! (And no, we're not talking about emotionally remote employees.) Tomorrow is a great reminder to be more intentional about appreciating those colleagues you don't see in person on a regular basis. Here are just a few ways you can show your remote employees some love (and of course these ideas work with your non-remote colleagues as well): Simply pick up the phone, call them, and thank them for what they do! Hold an impromptu video happy hour to celebrate their work. Send them a handwritten note of appreciation - handwritten notes make a huge impression when everything is online. Create a fun video message of appreciation from employees who are working in the office. Give out some fun awards such as The Bridge Builder Award to whichever virtual employee rocks it when it comes to helping everyone feel included, The UFO Award to whoever has the most interesting unidentified objects lurking in their virtual background, or the Cat Herder Award to whoever has the most challenging time wrangling their pets during a video meeting. Leave a group thank you, cheer, or song on their voicemail. Find your best in-house impersonator who can send a message of appreciation on behalf of Elvis, Dolly Parton, or Bugs Bunny. Arrange for meals to be delivered for a hybrid/remote lunch appreciation event. Send a chocolate-gram! A singing telegram! A broccoli-gram! OK, maybe not that one. Clearly there's no shortage of things you can do to send your employees some love on a regular basis. When you meet in hybrid meetings, look for ways to engage and involve everyone - check out this list of remote engagement ideas here. Above all else, don't fall into the "out of sight, out of mind" trap. Look for innovative ways to intentionally ensure your remote employees feel as valued and as appreciated as all of your employees.

Showdown Displays periodically changes up their voice mail to offer alternative versions of their menu options from different personas. Right now they have their menu translated into Pirate, but they've also featured a Surfer Dude option and a King of Rock and Roll option. The enthusiastic responses they get from their customers is a great reminder of the power of a bit of humor to delight and wow your customers!
