The Minnesota-based digital consulting company Nerdery (and what an awesome name that is) has been listed listed by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing companies in the United States.

One of the keys to their success is their phenomenal culture - the founders of Nerdery made it a goal to build the kind of workplace where they would want to work. What a fabulous concept!

Here are just a few highlights of their culture that has helped them achieve their remarkable success.

1.
All employees are given the job title “Co-President" on day one, which helps instill a greater sense of purpose, belonging, and ownership in the company.

2. They have more than 50 clubs to help foster camaraderie - from knitting to hacky sack and everything in between (though surprisingly, no wombat wrangling). All employees are encouraged to start a club of their own choosing.

3. They have a weekly Friday after work tradition held in their Nerdatorium, known as Bottlecap.This tradition features beer, snacks, show and tell presentations for anyone who wants to demonstrate a new product, a "Meet the Newbs" video introducing a new employee, and a video montage of Nerds giving fellow Nerds congrats for a job nerdishly well done.

4. They live by the credo "the best idea wins." They explicitly tell employees that it's not just their privilege to speak up if they have a better idea, it's their responsibility to do so.

No matter what message you are trying to convey at work, always consider the impact a little humor can make. One study found that when a request is made with humor people are five times more likely to go along with you. And if you have a rule or request to convey, humor can help you cajole people or disagree with someone without being disagreeable.

So here's a fun example of an everyday workplace request using a little humor.
As seen written on top of a food container in a workplace fridge:

"PLEASE DO NOT EAT MY LUNCH.
I HAVE 7 SHRIMP AND 4,639 RICE."
