Staying Positive Around Toxic Thoughts
Many of us are seeing the results of staying positive in our daily lives, and yet we still have to stay on guard for what the masters and mystics throughout the ages have called mental poisoning. We're finding out that poisons are not just of a physical nature but are also of a mental nature. We see the physical toxins in our foods and our environment - and we do our best to avoid these things - but up until recently we haven't seemed to pay as much attention to the mental toxins which can do us just as much harm as any physical substances.
So, what are these mental poisons and how do we recognize them and avoid them? A mental poison is any thought we harbor that doesn't serve us or our fellow travelers, that furthers our sickness, our poverty, our limitations, etc. Indeed, these poisons run so rampant throughout our world that one needn't look very far to find them. Every time we turn on the TV we open ourselves for having to deal with these hypnotic-like poisons. Every time we agree with our well meaning, but unconscious friends who talk freely about "what could go wrong," we open ourselves to undesired experiences. In fact, so that we can better spot these mental poisons when they come our way, let's take a closer look at a couple of examples that are way too prevalent in our society.
When the doctor says you have such and such a disease and it won't go away or you have so many months to live, he is spreading a powerful mental poison. He is creating your upcoming experience if you allow him to do so (because, per the Law of Attraction / Intention Process, your thoughts create your future.) He is getting you to think thoughts that will harm you just as fast as any physical poison.
Or, when a new acquaintance excitedly says that a scary sickness is going around, if you nod your head and agree with her, you pave the way for it to enter your life in the days ahead.
Or, when the TV advertisement announces that "times are hard and getting harder," if you buy into this idea you will limit your God-given ability to experience your abundance.
Instances like these are so common in our world - and yet, the people who are waking up spiritually are doing their best to stay positive in any and all situations. And, at the same time, they are becoming much more aware of when someone around them is spreading a mental poison. The trick (per the Law of Agreement) for those of us who are becoming better at spotting these "thought toxins" is to withhold our agreement, to refrain from nodding our head or saying "uh-huh" when a poisonous thought comes toward us.
The bottom line calls upon us to realize that we can think whatever we want, and thus create whatever we want. There is nobody standing over us with a whip telling us what we have to think (even though some people would quickly do so if given the chance.) This is what stepping into our power is all about. We can choose for ourselves, or we can let others choose for us. Likewise, we can choose thoughts that will give us the experiences we're looking for, or we can choose thoughts that will bring harm into our lives.

The Law of Agreement
The Law of Agreement describes how we create our reality by agreeing with the beliefs of others. Filled with powerful stories that illustrate this law in action, you will learn to withhold your agreement from ideas that aren't serving you anymore and agree with the ideas and beliefs that do serve you and your fellow travelers. Here is a short excerpt from The Law of Agreement:
The way to make a positive change in your life and in the lives of everyone in our world is to put the Law of Agreement to work on your behalf. The Law of Agreement insures that as we lend our agreement to any belief, we reinforce it; we make it stronger. While as we refrain from lending our agreement to an idea that isn't likely to give us the results we're looking for, we dilute it; we weaken its power over us and its power over everyone else simultaneously.
Using the Law of Agreement can change things in a hurry. Now that we are armed with this new information, every belief or snippet of propaganda that comes our way becomes an opportunity for us to take a stand. We can make a difference in our world every time a new idea is presented to us. Whereas in the past, we may have been on automatic pilot and found ourselves nodding or agreeing with propositions without thinking too much about them, now we can utilize the Law of Agreement several times a day. Indeed, we're being called on to make life-changing choices on such a steady basis now that it is important for us to be more alert than ever to what we agree with (or withhold our agreement from), lest we add to that which no longer serves us, to that which is so blatantly obsolete, to that which brings us harm, or to that which we wouldn't want to manifest in a gazillion years.

Awakening by Craig Holliday
In our Circle here in Pagosa Springs an Intender recently passed around copies of the following article written by Craig Holliday from the nearby town of Durango. We liked it do much that we share it with you now.
After years of struggling with life, studying and inquiring, and being present with teachers of Enlightenment, I have formed a deep, experiential relationship with what it means to actually be free, to be awake; right here, right now, in this lifetime. This is not something that is found in our mentality or habitual and conditioned egoic minds; our direct experience is the ground where awakening arises. The most basic definition of awakening is that awakening is a fundamental shift in identity out of our personal, separate and egoic conditioning and into Awake, Spacious, Luminous, Ineffable Awareness as to who and what we are.
Years ago, when I first heard these words from my teacher Adyashanti, it stopped me dead in my tracks. It ended so much confusion about what awakening actually was. What it left me with was a direct experience of Alive Simplicity, a simplicity that I had been craving for years. This simplicity is totally ordinary, yet as vast as the sky. It includes everything and it is the great nothingness at the same time. It is beyond any thought, concept, experience or perspective. And because it is always arising or existing in the present moment, it continues to be totally ground shaking to our everyday sense of self, leaving us immobilized by an incredible Beauty and Intimacy that we see and experience in everyone and everything.
This door that my Teachers opened changed my life forever. Once the door opens, it is like waking a sleeping lion and as this lion wakes up to itself, our days of egoic identification are numbered and we begin to come home to the Beauty and Divinity that we are, right here in our mortal frames. As we wake up to our inherent Divinity, we realize that we are Divine, that everyone and everything is Divine, and that we are, and always have been, the dynamic vibrancy of Life itself. Yet, awakening cannot be summed up in some brief definition; it has to experienced and lived. After 20 years, I am still contemplating and discovering what it means to be awake in the world. I struggle to put into words, that which is beyond words and understanding, because the deepest truths are paradoxical, ever evolving and expanding.
Our educated Western minds want truth to fit into a simple definition, or a neat little box; but the Truth that I am speaking about does not fit within a box, within in a book, or within a religion. Truth is much larger than a definition; it cannot be contained by any walls or boundaries. This Truth is beyond the play of opposites, and includes the hugeness of Life: the incredible complexity, simplicity and the totality of Life.
This Truth is opposed to nothing and includes everything. Some speak about one truth, as opposed to some other religious or mental perspective of truth. I have no desire to speak in a way that divides our world into true and false. Our world, Life itself, is paradoxically terribly wonderful, and to live in Truth is to be awake beyond our mind's play of opposites or mental constructs. To live in this Truth, as this Truth, we have to first be willing to become humble. For our humility is a doorway out of our egoic conditioning and into our true nature. What this means practically is that we are willing to drop our preconceived beliefs, opinions and judgments about life and others. And in this space of humility allow the Divine to show us Her face in every moment, no matter what arises.
