Reuters recently published an interesting piece about the
increases in associate salaries at large and midsize law firms. The article says these raises are
not decreasing attorney turnover (and are also dragging down the bottom lines of the law firms). Turnover at the firms is even
higher
than during the same time last year.
Meanwhile, the ABA Journal looked at
law jobs in 2021 overall and said median salaries for new law grads has reached an all-time high despite a dip in the employment rate for new law grads.
You've probably heard that
emotional intelligence (EI) is playing an increasingly bigger role these days when you're trying to get hired into a new job. Hiring managers want to hire people with a high level of EI. This is why I dive into the topic in my JD Refugee® career path exploration coaching programs. Here’s an article on
how managing your expectations can improve your EI.
You can’t overcome
everything with resilience, of course. For example, when you’re stuck in a bad career fit, it makes sense to explore your options. That’s why I published a page on my site that provides
encouraging data for those who hate law practice and want to get out. It also provides steps to take if you’re considering leaving
law.
Finally, to bring it full circle, since The Beatles sang “All You Need Is Love,” I’m sharing a link to an ABA Journal article about
how lawyers can use self-love to quiet the voice of your inner critic and help avoid burnout.
I’ll leave it there for now. Or should I say I’ll let it be? 😊
Until next time,
Marc
