Following hot on the heels of the super popular SUPER JET Alto mouthpieces we are very excited to introduce the new SUPER JET Tenor models. The new SUPER JET Tenors are
available now and offer many of the same performance characteristics that made the SUPER JET Altos so popular. The new SUPER JET Tenors are available in 6, 7, 7*, 8*, 9* & 10* tip openings. After their launch last year, the SUPER JET Altos quickly became one of JodyJazz’s top selling mouthpiece models and based upon the early response, the SUPER Tenors
appear destined to soon join them on the same ‘Top Ten’ lists. Developed specifically with the Smooth Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Rock and Funk player in mind, the SUPER JET Tenor is a very contemporary sounding mouthpiece with many characteristics that JodyJazz has not offered in a Tenor model before. The new SUPER JET Tenor model is going to give you more power, more edge and more altissimo. But like the Alto model, it is beautifully free-blowing with enough bottom in the sound to make it more
versatile than many mouthpieces in this category of small chamber pieces. As our first mouthpiece with these brighter characteristics, we were extremely excited by the success of the SUPER JET Alto. A number of our top Endorser Artists like Andy Snitzer and Darren Rahn are playing the SUPER JET Alto now and all of them who play Tenor
immediately asked 'when can I get this in a tenor!?' So we began the development right away and have been delighted with the results. Anyone who likes the Alto model will be blown away by the Tenor. If you like plenty of volume and cutting power, this mouthpiece is for you!! The new SUPER JET Tenor models are made at the JodyJazz
factory in Savannah, GA using five-axis CNC technology. It is a Silver-Plated Brass mouthpiece and incorporates many of the same state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques developed by JodyJazz during the design and development of the award-winning DV Series. Each SUPER JET Tenor is individually hand-crafted to the strictest quality standards and every single mouthpiece is fully gauged and play tested by experienced professionals before it leaves the factory. The new SUPER JET Tenors have
an MSRP of $395.00 and ship with Rico H Ligature, Cap & Pouch.
And don’t forget, for the ultimate upgrade we recommend the new POWER RING® Ligature. For Gold chose the ‘MT1’ and for Silver the
‘MT1S’.
JodyJazz Acquires Chedeville® |
JodyJazz is very proud to announce that we have recently completed the acquisition of the world renowned Chedeville® Company, maker of some of the world’s most famous Clarinet and
Saxophone mouthpieces. For the past two years we had been developing a new range of Clarinet and Saxophone mouthpieces specifically for the classical and concert band world. Having studied Clarinet extensively at the University of South Florida, Jody was well aware of the Chedeville name and its peerless reputation in Clarinet
Mouthpieces, and in particular the distinctive tonal properties of the legendary 'Chedeville Rubber'. After discovering that the current owner of Chedeville had successfully replicated the original Chedeville Rubber formula, Jody jumped at the opportunity to own the company when it became available. Not only does it provide us with a famous brand around which to build our classical and concert band offerings, it also provides access to the proprietary rubber formula that made the Chedeville
mouthpieces so popular in the first place.
Jody Espina, Founder and President of JodyJazz Inc shakes hands with Dr. L. Omar Henderson
Ph.D, Chedeville CEO, after the completion of the acquisition. The Chedeville
company was founded by Charles Chedeville in Paris in the early 1920's and so began what is now considered to be the "Golden era of French mouthpiece making". During the 1920's and 1930's Chedeville machined their mouthpieces from super-resonant premium rod rubber, and the mouthpieces produced during this period have long been considered the ‘Gold Standard’ for sound quality and performance. Unfortunately the company's activities were badly disrupted by World War II and after the war, with
France deeply immersed in rebuilding and regeneration, access to the same premium rod rubber became impossible. Together with the manufacturing changes forced upon them owing to the harsh economic times, the mouthpieces lost much of their cache. Over the next few decades Chedeville changed ownership several times until it was taken over by Dr. L. Omar Henderson Ph.D, the current owner. Dr. Henderson, a Research Chemist by profession, recreated the original Chedeville rod rubber formulation
after years of painstaking historical research. He also recreated many of the original Chedeville manufacturing techniques and designs using state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation. Dr. Henderson's proprietary rod rubber formulation is unquestionably the most accurate recreation of the original Chedeville rubber and has the same amazing resonance and superlative sonic properties as the original "Golden era" mouthpieces of the 20's and 30's. All Chedeville mouthpiece production will transfer to the JodyJazz factory in Savannah, GA. We plan to combine the many classical mouthpiece designs currently in development with the very best of the Chedeville mouthpiece designs, using the proprietary Chedeville rubber as appropriate. All our Classical Clarinet and Saxophone Mouthpieces will be consolidated under
the Chedeville brand. Work is already underway developing a full line, which will also include clarinet barrels, to be launched at NAMM 2019 and the new Chedeville.com website is currently under construction.
"In order to make the finest quality woodwind mouthpieces for the classical world, deserving of the Chedeville name, we will
seek out some of the greatest talent in the world as advisors and testers of the products," says Jody. "The guiding principle for the Chedeville brand will be to take advantage of everything we have learned at JodyJazz about design, quality, consistency, and state of the art technology over the past 18 years while honoring the traditions of the past.”
We continue to expand the selection of our successful new POWER RING® Ligature range. The new ‘MS1’ model is designed for the DV Soprano mouthpiece and the new ‘MB1’ is designed for
the DV and the DV NY Baritone and will also fit the DV Bass. And we now have POWER RING Ligatures for Clarinet!! The new ‘CL1’ and ‘CL1S’ will fit most major brands of Clarinet mouthpiece on the market. With these new additions, the company now offers a full complement of POWER RING Ligature models to fit just about all the mouthpieces in the JodyJazz range. The New POWER RING Ligatures have greater thickness and heft and feature a concave inner design
which reduces the touch points on the reed thereby maximizing reed vibration. Furthermore there are no moving or added parts, further increasing the efficiency of vibration. The design of the new POWER RING Ligatures allow the most freedom and vibration of the reed of any Ligatures current on the market. The amount of harmonics present are increased, allowing the fullest saxophone sound containing high, mid and low frequencies. The POWER RING simply slides over the reed and becomes very secure
as it is pushed tightly over the reed. The new POWER RING Ligatures are individually CNC machined from virgin brass at the JodyJazz factory in Savannah, GA. Their standard finish is 24kt Gold with select models also available in Silver. Each JodyJazz POWER
RING Ligature comes with a deluxe pouch and all models have an MSRP of $59.95.
Though we say this every year, this year’s NAMM show really was ‘The biggest one ever.’ The 2018 show saw the opening of the new 200,000 square-foot North Wing of the Anaheim Convention Center which expanded the convention capacity to over 600,000
square-feet of exhibit space. This new two-story convention space, attached to the main Convention Center via skybridge, was filled with audio and lighting manufacturers, most of whom had never exhibited at the NAMM show previously. In total nearly 2,000 companies representing more than 7,000 brands exhibited at the NAMM show, with over 500 being first time exhibitors. The attendance figures were equally as impressive with over 115,000 registered attendees, including more than 20,000
hailing from over 100 foreign countries. JodyJazz's Danielle Walker, Jody Espina and Colin Schofield at the
JodyJazz Booth at the 2018 Winter NAMM Show Also new for 2018 was a reconfigured layout of the existing halls with the various
instrument groups organized in to “communities” of related products. This resulted in a new location for our recently expanded booth but as always we experienced four unbelievably busy days meeting with our dealers, distributors, customers, friends and artists from all over the world. As always Jody hosted regular performances on the booth throughout the day and we were delighted to be able to
feature Andy Snitzer who joined us at NAMM for the very first time. Andy killed it during these performances and he was joined by the equally amazing Don Braden and Brian Miller, both veterans from last year’s show. And that’s not all, over the course of the four days many other JodyJazz Artists including D-Erania Stampley and Arno Haas joined in the fun.
Once again we were a sponsor of the ‘JAZZ JAM’ event
along with Legere Reeds and Rovner Ligatures. Now in its eighth year, the ‘JAZZ JAM’ has grown to become one of the major events on the NAMM show schedule. This year’s show featured another star-studded event with a series of tremendous performances. JodyJazz Artists performing at the Jazz Jam included Don Braden, Andy Snitzer, Brian Miller, Jeff Kashiwa, Derek Brown, Laura Dreyer, Sal Crocker, D-Erania Stampley, Phil French, Arno Haas, Austin Gatus, Tito Hinojosa, Jasmin Ghent, Lorenzo Ferrero, Tim Price, and of course Jody Espina. The great band you can hear in these videos was led by Howard Paul of Benedetto Guitars on Guitar with Mark Peterson on bass, Karl Latham on drums and keyboard player Ron Thompson. Following the spectacular worldwide critical acclaim heaped upon his previous recording "SHIFT", brilliant Alto player Logan Richardson has returned to his
native Kansas City to record his fourth studio album as leader. "Blues People" features local musicians Ryan Lee on drums, DeAndre Manning on bass, Justus West on guitar, and the Berlin based, Ukrainian guitar player Igor Osypov. Though it explores sonically different territory from its predecessor, Logan considers this new
recording to be "chapter 2 of SHIFT". "Blues People" will be released on the Ropeadope and Universal Music labels worldwide and has a scheduled release date of April 13, 2018. Logan plays the DV NY Alto 6. The amazing Don Braden has
a new recording just released called "Earth, Wind and Wonder". This great new recording features swinging jazz arrangements of songs by Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder. It features Don on Tenor sax, Flute and Alto Flute, Brandon McCune, Art Hirahara - piano, Joris Teepe, Kenny Davis - bass, Cecil Brooks III, Jeremy Warren - drums and others, plus Special Guests! Don plays the DV NY Tenor 8*. Downbeat Critics Poll Rising Star winner Noah Preminger also just announced a brand new album "Whispers and Cries" out now on Red Piano Records. The record showcases Noah's friend and superb pianist, Frank Carlberg. As a duo they play covers including songs like 'Aura Lee', 'Try a Little Tenderness' and 'Someone To Watch Over Me'. For a copy of this new recording and Noah's latest Quartet album "Genuinity" please click here to visit his website. As Noah notes, downloading from his website at this link is the best place to support the artist directly. Noah plays the HR* Tenor
10*. We are very proud to welcome world-renowned Tenor saxophonist Doug Lawrence to the JodyJazz family of Endorser Artists. Born in Louisiana and raised
in New Mexico, Doug spent over 25 years making a name for himself in New York City performing and recording with iconic artists Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Wilson, Buck Clayton, Dizzy Gillespie, Wild Bill Davis, Benny Goodman, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and many others. For the last 20+ years Doug has been a member of the 18-time Grammy winning Count Basie Orchestra and continues to tour the world with them as the featured tenor saxophone soloist. In addition Doug
maintains a busy schedule recording and performing with many of today’s leading Jazz artists including Tony Bennett, Patti Austin, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jamie Cullum and even Lady Gaga. Doug tried the new SUPER JET Tenor at the recent TMEA show and immediately fell in love!! “I can use this mouthpiece for any gig that I play. My main gig with
the Count Basie Orchestra, this mouthpiece will be perfect for that, or small group with the Dexter Gordon Legacy Quintet with Louis Hayes, this is going to be perfect. Just what I need. It’s the best mouthpiece on the market,” says Doug. Doug’s upcoming recording projects will be a Latin-Jazz album featuring among others Bobby Shew, and a straight-ahead
swinging quartet album with longtime friend John Trentacosta. Doug will also be the featured soloist on the "Ella turns 100-Live At The Apollo" recording featuring Andra Day, Patti Austin, Cassandra Wilson & Lizz Wright, and "80 Years of Basie with The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra" featuring Stevie Wonder. Both recordings will appear on the Concord Records label and are scheduled for release in 2018. |
