Winter 2017/18
Larnaka Brings A Sparkle to Winter!
Friends of Larnaka will already know that winter in the region is a special type of winter… mild and bright, and active and entertaining. During the Christmas period, there is a non-stop programme of different festive events, and visitors can take their pick from the sparkling town centre to the cheerful, rural villages. We have also welcomed back our beloved winter winged visitors, with a campaign to ensure that observers respect the migrating birds. And with the end of the year approaching, it is a great time for revealing the new plans and improvements for Larnaka city, with a very exciting set of projects in the pipeline. This winter, get away from the cold and let Larnaka warm your heart!

Events with Christmas Cheer!

Whether you are in the mood for the Christmas hustle and bustle of the town centre, or a more traditional experience in the villages or mountains, you will have no trouble filling your seasonal diary, thanks to a multitude of festive events across Larnaka region.

Larnaka’s Hilly ‘Eden’

The beautiful area of mountainous Larnaka as a whole has been declared a European Destination of Excellence on the island; with a particular emphasis on 18 of its unique, traditional communities that have a long, rich history of culture.

New Year… Great New Projects

Larnaka’s Mayor has unveiled exciting new plans for Larnaka city, including a more accessible town centre; new municipal gardens; a new municipal market, and multipurpose cultural and sporting facilities.

Amazing Antiquities

The antiquities of Larnaka never cease to amaze… the newly unearthed Hercules Mosaic is one of the most significant discoveries this decade, whilst the District Archaeological Museum of Larnaka is preparing to open its doors to the public in 2018, following extensive renovations.

Let’s Keep Larnaka’s Migratory Birds Safe… Together

With the return of flamingos and other migratory birds in and around the Larnaka Salt Lake network and Voroklini Lake, we urge the public to refrain from trying to get close-up to our feathered friends, or trampling or disturbing their natural habitat.

A Tasty Winter Selection

Winter is a great time to follow your taste buds around the villages of Mountainous Larnaka through the new Gastronomy Route created by the Women’s Association of Rural Larnaka and the LTB, which showcases traditional food products and authentic taverns.
