Putting my life in someone else's hands.
|
Hey ,
it felt like putting my life in someone else's hands.
"How long do you think it will take?" I asked nervously.
"You'll have it back in 2 weeks" Keith replied.
"I've only had it one week, now I've got 2 weeks without it!"
I've been looking for a luthier I can trust.
A luthier is someone who fixes, maintains and builds guitars. Think of them like a guitar mechanic.
As their mostly made of wood guitars change over time and every couple of years I take mine in for a service. But this time it was different.
I'd just bought a new classical guitar and I wanted an electro system fitted.
This meant drilling a hole through the side of the body.
All that money spent on such fine materials and craftsmanship and here I was getting someone to drill a hole in it!
It's not something I can do myself, but I'm not ashamed to say I felt nervous about handing it over.
Especially as his first words were, "Wow, I'm having that!"
A compliment and a joke at the same time!
I do want it back Keith!
Once I have it back I'll be filming new fingerstyle lessons for you.
If you're strings are buzzing on the fretboard or it feels as though it's really hard to press them down you might want to look into getting someone like Keith to look over your guitar.
They won't charge you for looking at it and they'll be able to tell you if any work needs doing to make your guitar potentially easier to play.
Just be prepared to be without your beloved 6 string for a while. That's the hardest part.
Keep on playing,
Drue James
