Are you being used?
|
Hey ,
ever heard this saying...
"Where the mind goes, the man follows"
I heard it on a documentary about young offenders in the US who instead of facing prison choose a military style boot camp.
In their training they attended a class that was attempting to explain why they took the actions that led them to prison.
And with any achievement I've ever made, it always started with a thought.
A thought that grew.
That created a plan.
And more thoughts that turned that plan into action.
Until one day I achieved my goal.
Now I'm not delusional...
If it was as easy as thinking our way into being good guitarists we'd all do it. And we'd all be great at it!
But how you think about your guitar playing does make an impact.
If you think "I'm awful at this song, I'll never be able to play it" why would you want to keep on playing and improve.
If you think... "I will be able to play this one day" that makes all the difference to your next practise session.
The mind is an extremely powerful tool.
Perhaps overused in our modern world and this can lead to much of the dysfunction of the human condition (but that's a whole new email for another time!!!)
But when we use the mind as a tool and we don't let our mind use us, it's an incredibly powerful tool for learning.
Not just new skills but understanding more about ourselves and ultimately the actions we take.
Use your mind, don't let it use you.
Keep on playing,
Drue James
