Hey ,
the day after my father's funeral another big life event happened...
At 530 feet high on the top of the i360 in Brighton I popped the question to Lucy.
We've joked about proposals before and her first reaction was "get up off one knee, you're being a pilock"
The timing of these life events are close together, but I've been planning this proposal 2 months before my father died.
And one of the last things he said to Lucy was "hold on to what you love". A poignant message that still grips us to this day.
My father and Lucy are very similar. Both individualist and highly emotional people.
It's no coincidence that as he began to leave my life she began to enter it.
Now for those of you who have been following my emails for a while this will feel like a happy ending.
It was only 2 years ago that I made this video about how my life unexpectedly changed with a sudden betrayal.
But I've had the right amount of distance and time from this. I made sure it didn't add bitterness to my life or swallow up my trust.
And I am happy now. I don't like that word happy, as it implies a forever state. At peace, perhaps comes close to it.
Things feel natural with our relationship.
Nothing feels daunting, scary or doubtful. I've been there with those feelings and I know (for me at least) where they end up.
We've got 5 kids under the age of 10 in our new family, so there should be a lot to question!
But it just works! And it has been for a while now.
Big life events seem to come two at a time for me.
How about you?
Keep on playing,
Drue James
