Hey ,
Â
for just over 3 years my life has constantly been changing.
Â
From divorce to moving back in with my folks.
Â
Seeing my father's dementia slowly consume him.
Â
His death last November.
Â
Finding new love and being a much bigger family.
Â
Continued change.
Â
How we deal with change defines us.
Â
No matter how set in our ways we are. It can all change.
Â
And sooner or later (given enough time) life will change and we will have to adapt.
Â
I'm learning to welcome change. Not fear it.
Â
Every fearful thought of the future.
Â
Every positive step forward or crushing disappointment.
Â
I welcome each of them as a friend.
Â
Not easy to do, but certainly better than stressing about it.
Â
It's the same with guitar practice.
Â
We can stagnate and lose inspiration.
Â
We can go days without playing because we're not challenging ourselves.
Â
I sometimes ask my students... "What are you practising for?"
Â
Most will say for pleasure and that's fine.
Â
But what if you had a performance. Just to some friends or family.
Â
When we set a goal like this it pushes us to improve. To practice more and to play a song from beginning to end.
Â
Give it a try if you're losing motivation.
Â
What's the worst that can happen?
Â
Keep on playing,
Â
