Hey ,
what was the first song you learnt on guitar?
For me I was 12 years old and I didn't have a clue!
My first attempts were just smashing the strings with my fingers.
The guitar was out of tune. And inevitably I ended up breaking a string.
I remember weeping with frustration when I tried to change the string myself and then snapping it again.
I didn't know what I was doing, but I was determined.
I used to overplay so hard on my first guitar.
I think it was passion. I knew I loved the sound of the strings being hit but I didn't know any chords.
Although the guitar annoyed me I kept getting drawn back to it throughout my teens.
It was only when my Dad paid for lessons that I learnt a song.
It was the theme to the Marmite advert and it was based on Low Rider by W.A.R.
All epic journeys start with that first step.
When we look back on how far we've come it can be wonderfully rewarding and motivating.
Think how far you've come already.
And if you're starting out use My Beginner Acoustic Course to learn some easy songs.
Keep on playing,
Drue James
