It's miraculous |
Hey , I stood nervously with my back to the audience. "Play Wonderwall" someone shouted. It's been 20 years since I stood on this very same spot and performed. Now here I was, palms sweaty, mouth dry, ready to play again. I gingerly go into the first song and get a feel for my street
stage. People stop and do listen, but pretend not to. My nerves begin to release as the first person approaches and drops some coins into my gig bag. I dare to enjoy myself. And I'm all the better for it. Raising my performance game, pushing myself into a new territory as a solo performer. Busking or street performing is perhaps the bravest of all
stages. No one knows what to expect from you. And you're never everyone's cup of tea. But when you connect with people who do understand what you're playing it's a great feeling. Brightening someone's day with a song is changing their lives, if only momentarily. It's miraculous. After 45 minutes I feel proud of what I've
achieved. There's things I need to improve (better song memorisation) and there's things that playing live has made me feel better about. I know for many of you street performing is something you'll never want to do. But having a small goal (for me it was getting out and playing live again) helps raise our practice game. It gives us something to practice
for. It might be "I want to play this song without stopping" or it could be "I'm going to play every day for 10 minutes". Set a practice goal and watch your guitar playing improve. Keep on playing,
