Hi ,
every now and then I like to share with you an "accidental top tip" that I've discovered when teaching a lesson.
Here's what happened...
The Problem
One of my students was finding it
challenging to sing and play guitar at the same time. Whenever they sang it was difficult to keep the rhythm of the guitar in sync with the song.
Common Solutions
The first thing we did was made the rhythm guitar more simple. Just 4 down strums for each chord.
We then used a metronome (set to a slow speed) to count the beats and understand the
rhythm.
Once this was all in place I then tried something very different.
The Accidental Top
Tip
I said "Instead of singing the song, try humming quietly whilst playing the guitar"
Eureka!
Suddenly, the singing was in the right place and the guitar was solid.
Humming means you can listen more to the guitar (and the metronome) but you're still working on the 2 things at once. Therefor improving your multi tasking between both skills.
