[DJ] I'm a beginner.

Published: Sun, 01/17/16

Hi ,

I'm a beginner in so many areas of music.

For example, I've never learnt any gypsy jazz or shred metal.

Music is such a vast subject that it would take many lifetimes to be proficient in all styles.

However, there are some core skills that are essential for all genres.

When you learn by yourself with video lessons the area that normally gets the most attention is making chords, playing songs and perhaps even some fingerpicking.

Most self taught guitarists that I've met (who have been playing for 12 months or more) are NOT beginners when it comes to chords and their fretting hand.

But what they soon realise is that they ARE beginners in perhaps the most important area of them all.

Time and time again I've seen this happen with self taught guitarists.

The tone (fretting hand) is intermediate but the RHYTHM is at a beginners level.

You can find out why this happens (and learn some quick techniques to improve your rhythm) by clicking on the free video link below.

We've all got to start somewhere. But here's one piece of essential advice when learning by yourself:

DON'T OVERLOOK YOUR RHYTHM.

Keep on playing,

Drue James.
