Hello ,
have you seen those ads at the beginning of YouTube lessons that are claiming you
can "master the guitar" by using their video games?
These companies sprung up about 3 years ago.
At first I was skeptical, but I signed up and gave it a go.
To be fair, the
songs were great and the app was easy to use.
I even got realtime feedback on my playing.
But unfortunately what this video game didn't show me was how to improve.
It would tell me where I went
wrong but it couldn't show me how to fix it.
Also, getting 70% of the song right felt like an achievement. I just moved on without knowing if I needed the perfect score.
For me playing for "points" was initially motivating but it quickly lost it's appeal.
While these clever video games are a step above YouTube lessons (because you get feedback on your playing) they're still missing the "human" teacher element of showing you how to improve and what to practice.
Tomorrow we'll be learning about what some people consider to be the "highest form" of
learning guitar.
Stay tuned for more.
Keep on playing,
