,
can you guess what it means to focus practice?
Sure, it could mean playing the same song
over again. But it's much more than that.
Imagine this scenario...
You're practising a song and you keep going wrong in the same places.
So you start from the beginning and play it again.
This song isn't going to learn itself! It takes repeated effort right?
So of you go playing the song again and what happens?
You make mistakes in the same places. Annoying.
But surely a few more attempts and you'll get to the end eventually.
If this is you please STOP right now.
Learn
to practice effectively. It's simple.
Although it's enjoyable to play the song from beginning to end it's not the most effective way to learn it.
Instead FOCUS PRACTICE the challenging
parts.
Break the song down into small parts (or bars if you will) and repeat those tricky sections.
For every practice you should repeat those challenging parts at least 20
times.
Then the next time you play the song through your hands will play that tricky section with renewed confidence.
They'll have developed more "muscle memory" with your focus practice
session.
Make better use of your precious playing time.
