A Broken Promise...
|
Hey ,
I hate to do this but I've been smacking my head against a brick wall for long enough.
A month ago I asked you to vote on my next song lesson. The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkle won the vote.
My first lesson back after a break, it's got to be good one Drue!
So I started planning...
I listened to the original recording and heard about 4 different guitars. Not the best start. Which one should I choose?
I figured the picking pattern out, good old travis style with that thumb bouncing around the bass notes.
But then I started tabbing it out and I got overwhelmed.
There's just so much going on in this song that a solo guitar felt insincere to the original. That's not to say it doesn't work, it just didn't work for me.
The weird thing is I have taught this to students in the past, but I've never truly been happy with any arrangement I've made or found online. So why are you telling me this Drue?
Making lessons for me, is much like how practice should always be for you. Enjoyable! And if you've given it your best shot and you're still not enjoying it then move on.
Life is too short.
My broken promise is I won't be making a lesson for The Boxer. However, I did find an awesome lesson for it here. This guy nails it on the performance.
The next lesson I'll be filming is Autumn Leaves the Eva Cassidy version.
Keep on playing, Drue James www.LearnGuitarInLondon.com Not a PSA Member yet? Learn more and join the waitlist |
