It's just a ride.

Hey ,
I got totally drained out on a building project this week.
And when this happens I have to sit and recuperate.
I used to fear and admire those persistent hard working types who can just keep going. Over and over, relentless energy.
I used to beat myself up, saying I'm not working hard enough. These other guys are doing more than me. I can't keep up.
But then I'd realise it doesn't matter.
There'll always be people who can work harder me, be stronger and do more.
Just like playing guitar.
They'll always be people who practice more than me.
Who can play songs better than I can.
But does that matter?
It depends.
I can look at it 2 ways:
1: They're better than me and I'll never get that far.
2: They're better than me, but I know from experience that I'm improving and perhaps one day I will get there.
It's just a mindset.
While I have no actual evidence to back this up... the "I'll never be that good" mindset has caused more people to give up guitar than any other factor.
Spend more time enjoying each practice and less time comparing yourself to others.
Only one of those things above will actually make a difference to how well you can play.
Keep on playing,
Drue James
