It's dark Daddy...
|
Hey ,
I had a moment in hospital this week that really touched me.
My 3 year old (Oscar) has a rare genetic condition that made the optic nerve in his right eye develop abnormally.
When I held him in my arms for the first time I knew his eye looked different.
So doctors study his eyes on a regular basis to check everything is ok.
But this time at the hospital it was different for me.
He can now identify various animals and objects that the doctors hold up for him to see.
And they do this while covering each eye.
But when they covered his good eye and I heard him say "It's dark Daddy..." this really choked me.
Now, don't get me wrong...
I'm lucky to have 2 healthy sons. And I appreciate that everyday.
But it doesn't stop me feeling empathy when I hear just how blind he is in one eye.
It just hit home for me, that's all.
And what does this have to do with learning guitar?
Oscar sees the world differently to the majority.
And I love that about him.
And I hope this means he forges his own path in life.
Learning guitar and being a musician will always be associated with "going your own way"
Not following the herd.
And whether those around you support you or not, you know you're playing guitar because it's what you want to do.
It will always be your choice and nobody else's.
That's just how you see the world.
Keep on playing,
