Calling the police
|
Hey ,
on Saturday morning I visit my father. He has dementia and lives at a care home.
I'd love to tell you that I enjoy every visit. But the truth is it's tough. And there's a story to that...
2 years ago my life changed drastically and I found myself living back at home. It wasn't something I planned but it turned out to have a surprising benefit.
When I moved back my father was becoming increasingly unmanageable at home.
He would walk around at all times of the day and night. And he was getting increasingly confused and agitated.
My Mum was becoming his full time carer. And as this happened I could see her getting more withdrawn.
I started to think that the dementia was going to take both my parents.
But we supported each other through tough times.
My Mum supported my Dad and I supported my Mum.
I do believe in synchronicity. Fortunate timing or whatever you want to call it.
If I hadn't moved back home when I did I'm not sure how my Mum would've coped.
Ultimately it was me that had to call the police when my Dad got very confused with who my Mum was one evening.
And this led him eventually being taken into full time care.
I'm not sure why I'm sharing this with you. Perhaps you've been through something similar.
But I've always found great wisdom in the timing of life's events.
Like the timing of when you started learning guitar.
Whether it came late or early in life. I believe it came at the right time for you.
So don't say "I wish I started sooner".
You've started now.
And please use my lessons to inspire and support you.
Keep on playing,
Drue James
