It was subtle enough to put in the category of ordinary. But for me, it was a wink from God.
My schedule included a guitar lesson followed by a date to meet with a couple at Be Well Bakery.
My hope was to give support to their marriage, and create a space for listening to flourish. On a whim of generosity, the father of my student asked if I wanted anything to eat, as he was headed out to Be Well for a coffee run.
"That is so kind of you. I would love an orange juice!" Their juice is freshly squeezed, and a good reason to get out of bed in the
morning.
The student and I strummed half a dozen songs, singing along for fun. I enjoyed her growing ability to change chords, and remember fingering. She is younger than I was when I started playing, and sometimes I hope that she will find as much joy in it as I have.
Her father arrived home as I was packing up my guitar, and handed me not only the bright juice, but a muffin. It nourished me even before I sank my teeth into it.
John and I met the couple, and while I did pay for their drinks, it tickled me to know who paid for mine.
How does God do it? Right when I think I might be going out of my way for someone else, He steps in and surprises me first.
