Hi !
I've been outside preparing for our annual freeze that's coming
tonight here in Seattle. Moving, covering, gathering and schlepping. This is the time of year when I get very jealous of my plants. Lol! They don't mind the dips in temps - arg! I wish I could slough off the cold just as easily.
Quick Tips:
If you haven't had the chance to do some winterizing - and I apologize if this gets to you late - here are some quick things to jump-on to save your plants from the dip ONLY if they are NOT hardy. If you've chosen plants that are hardy to your area, there is no need to worry.
- Cover the plant or container with an upside down nursery pot or cardboard box at night when the temperature is at its coldest. Remember to take it off in the morning for the plants to get light and air. Do this until the night temps return to normal.
- Move the
pots/plants beside the house. It's a temperature difference of up to 15 degrees. Keep an eye on the watering because it won't get any rain or snow under the eaves. Move it back-out after the threat is over.
- Keep watering when necessary. Check your containers throughout the winter every week or so. You want to keep the plant's roots frozen, not
freeze-dried.
