GREGG'S REST STOP
Romans study announcement!
September 1, 2015

I've not written a Rest Stop in over a month because the Lord has had me immersed in Paul's epistle to the Romans chapters 5 through 8.  Nothing has transformed my mind and entire life more than the foundational truths of the gospel in Romans.

I have just completed revising a Romans 5-8 study workbook (96 pages) to be more of an inductive, word-for-word study.  Each word is indeed a jewel that the Holy Spirit uses to point us toward the glory of God.

Martin Luther calls the letter to the Romans as "the purest gospel."

Martyn Lloyd-Jones has noted, "Romans is the first letter in the New Testament because the church was given wisdom by the Holy Spirit to realize it is first in importance...with all the foundation truths of the Scripture."

Charles Stanley testifies of "laying aside all other reading and studying this epistle for nearly two years."

J.I. Packer claims, "All roads in the Bible are seen most clearly from Romans."

ROMANS STUDY

Pray for the Romans 5-8 studies I will be teaching September 10-12 and January 21-23.  I also welcome other opportunties to teach Romans to groups you may know about or may be able to host.  I'd love to hear from you!

Below are two excerpts from the revised Romans study workbook.  The diagram provides an overview of the foundational truths from Roman 5-8.  Read this diagram from the ground-up to sense the flow of the letter to the Romans and to sense how the foundational truths build upon each other.

This diagram is reminiscent of a lighthouse on a secure foundation in the midst of storms.  The storms are a picture of tribulations we experience from sin, Satan, flesh, and the world. The light is a picture of the glory of God in the midst of tribulations.

In our tribulations, God is conforming us to the image of His Son in order for us to participate in the ultimate glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:28-29).

I covet your prayers for these Romans studies!

I love the following quote by Martyn Lloyd-Jones regarding the teaching of the letter to the Romans:

"The Bible is not an ordinary book -- it is God's book, and it is a book about God and man's relationship to Him.  I do not propose to consider this great Epistle in a merely intellectual or academic manner.  It was written as a letter by a great pastor.  It is not a theological treatise written to experts and to professors.  The Apostle was concerned to help these Christians in Rome, to build them up and to establish them in their most holy faith, and, God willing, I shall certainly be trying to do the same thing.  It is an occasion, then, for worship, and not really a lecture."

Amen to that!  Have a special week, Gregg
