Recently, I have received many inquiries from visitors to my site asking me if it is safe to use "Lavender essential oil" on their dogs.
In aromatherapy, the three most commonly used "Lavender" oils
are "True Lavender" (Lavandula angustifolia), "Spike Lavender" (Lavandula latifolia), and Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia).
True Lavender is mild and gentle and can be used on dogs to support and enhance a dog's health and mental wellbeing.
Spike Lavender should be used with caution as it may trigger seizures in dogs with epilepsy or prone to episodes of seizure.
Lavandin is a cross between Spike and True Lavender, and is usually considered a lower quality type of lavender oil.
Personally, I only use True Lavender with dogs just to be on the safe side.
How then can we harness the benefits of True Lavender
essential oil for our dogs?
Lavender essential oil can be used topically to address various skin issues, and it can also be diffused in the air to relax and calm an anxious dog.
This is a very versatile oil and a "must-have" for you
and your family (including your fur-baby!).
